Weekend salmon trip

Went looking for salmon on the weekend to no avail. Launched at Ocean Reef and travelled all the way to Cockburn Sound down the coast for not even a sniff. On the way back home came across some bait and birds working in ten metres approximately a kilometre off City Beach. Thinking we'd struck a big school of salmon we were very surprised, not to mention very outgunned to come across a mob of angry sambos. This one was caught on a Stella 5000, Saltiga M Over 80 rod and 40lb leader.

Had the same experience
Had the same experience today....no fish all day, then 300m from Hillarys Marina Samson fish busting up hapless mullet.
Unfortunately, none of us were talented enough to hook one.......
Boston Whaler 235 Conquest......getting the flogging it was built for.

I wouldn't say it had
I wouldn't say it had anything to do with talent John, more good luck than anything else. This fish took a McCarthy SP as it seemed the only thing we had onboard they were interested in. Lost the next fish to something much larger mid fight... can only assume a shark.
