Weekend Sambos
Submitted by Seaquest on Wed, 2010-02-17 08:29
Had another great day out on the weekend with plenty of fish caught. Had some fun jigging sambos on the way home. One fish hit the jig 4 times on the way up and hooked up just under the boat. A couple more winds of the reel and the jig would have come flying out of the water lol.

Nice one Seaquest
It is good when they hook up close to the boat. You can see a lot of the action. Did you see it hit the jig?

Only just saw it. Would love to throw someone in with a camera and try and get a hook up shot. Probable a bit dangerous though.

Lol Yes you wouldn't want a ranging sambo run into
you while you were trying to film it.
I was lucky enough to fish Key Biscayne awhile back with Simon C and the sambos were also hitting the jigs really close to the surface. It looked pretty spectacular.

Awsome Colin. I love these
Awsome Colin. I love these fish. They can really test your tackle. Mate was fishing with bait and had hooks straightened and 200lb swivels snapped. Lucky to have these guys around. I hope we can look after them better than we have with other species as more and more people target them. They are a great asset to have.

was out with BJ last weekend and my sambo on light gear had him dancing around his boat while it was doing laps...ha ha

Honsu had a crack at them on poppers while we were at
Key Biscayne. That is definately a place where you would have a chance of succeeding damo.

Sambos were caught in 60m sw
Sambos were caught in 60m sw of coral lumps. They've been hanging around a little ledge that has a fair bit of my tackle on it lol. Feral said his mate got a heap of small yellowtail kings on top of the lumps. Weathers gone a bit pair shaped for the weekend, might have to wait to monday to get that jigged dhuy.

Heard there was a few salmon trout about. They usually show up first.
I"ll let you know when things start to happen. Probable be a pretty late season like last year. Too much warm water hanging around.
Can,t wait. Going to try putting one out as a live bait for a mako one night. Will be good to test out my new penn inters.

Yer Paul was a bit sore on
Yer Paul was a bit sore on Monday. Where I fish you really have to crank up the drag to stop them busting off on the ledge.

Had a day a few weeks back
Had a day a few weeks back with Garbo where we were at anchor and had Sambo schools of 20 or more round the boat. All good fish over the 15kg mark. Every time we got one to the boat, there wasn't just another following but schools of them. Normally get onto one and have a follower but this day was the exception to the rule where you could have leaned over the side and tail grabbed them.
Damo's Sambo on the weekend was a very respectable fish on light gear as well. Well done Damo.
