What is this species

Whilst fishing of steep point about a month ago i caught this fish not sure what it is. think it might be in the morong family if any one has any ideas on what it is please let me know.

Hard to tell when shes
Hard to tell when shes wearing a hat but maybe blonde with a tatttoo! lol. Na mate jokes it looks like a queen snapper but hard to tell from my end as the photos a bit blury. Good capture though well done.
Keep it tight, reeeeeeel tight!

Looks like a dusky morwong or a goldspot sweetlip. But yep, bit difficult to determine, did it go on the plate and how did it taste?

Spess your right she's a blonde with a tattoo. Don't think it's a queen snapper as it was all silver don't queen snapper have other colours as well.

Pink when you caught it,
Pink when you caught it, grey when it died. Sand snapper/sweetlip/blubberlip morwong/slate bream/blackall. That fish has many different names.

they are not from the morwong family

sand snapper
i caught 1 off onslow last year and didnt know what it was. looked in an ID book to find it was a sand snapper (poor eating).
too wide for a dusky and i think goldspot (painted) sweetlep are only caught in southers waters. although it is very similar to one.

Yep a sand snapper, caught one off beagle bay a few years ago..they get fat the buggers!
