Why black magic 15kg clips are rubbish

If you look closely you can see the catch has come open, and the tooth for the catch is simply stuck inside the split ring. All that it took to do this was a 89cm to fork trevally. The other reason they're just bad news is that the clip can drop off the swivel when its open and you lose them.

Replace the clip with a swivel to the split ring and you've got a good setup. A pair of split ring pliers are definately a worthy investment to create a stronger connection.
Good to see that you got the lure back, and whatever you were doing held up to some nice jigged fish I trust you'll be trying some more jigging down south now? (and i've gotta try some up north :p)

Richter Clips!
I use the ballbearing to jig setup also and if your wanting to change around to a few different types of jigs or lures then the Richter hi tensile clips are the best by far Jamie!

I notice williamson put a fixed swivel on some of their newer jig styles, could be something in that!

The richter ones arent
The richter ones arent cheap, but they're damn strong, especially for their size. Just picked up a few more on the weekend. Not so much for jigging, as I like it as compact as possible, but great for rigs, trolling, and the larger lures.
Dont know about that rig setup Jamie. If you tie to the swivel, you have to cut off when changing jigs. I dont like tying to the split rings as some have sharp edges, plus you wouldnt get a swivel in the line when fighting the fish, so you'd still want to add another swivel to the mix, making the BB one a bit pointless :p

Yeah I feel it was really added for the point of "selling difference" and I agree about no knots on split rings.

clips!
Richter Hi Tensile clips are small for their size so they dont interfere with jigs or lures action and are good if your wanting to try different lures/jigs/weights etc. The 100lb versions are $5.95 for a pack of 3 so $1.98 each is cheap imo. The loss of a jig or fish is far more expensive!
