Andy, I've seen a few that big, and a couple over 100kg, chewing up the trash fish off the back of Canarvon prawn trawlers. Thats when I found out that 600 meters of 15 kg line is not enough. Had to clamp down and break off to avoid being spooled till I eventually lost to much line to continue fishing. . . No Orange Hats Allowed
We have an unusal way of catching them, Drive up behind a trawler or longliner loading fish, throw chunks of Mullies overboard and then a hook only with a chunk of Mullie floating down WITH the burley,,,,,, An 8/0 Owner circle hook does the job nicely. Put your rod in a holder and just peel off line into the water, Reel in freespool with ratchet on............then wait for the ratchet to scream and flick lever over to sunset and FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi John, The fish have become less seasonal, and each year the average size is increasing! Good catches are now becoming common, I think these fish have got lazy chasing food and now just remain in our area chasing behind trawlers and gobbling up all the bycatch!!!!! We then chase the trawlers and chum (berley) as described above and catch them on chopped up Mullies. We get them on pusher lures too. We just find it easier chasing ships with the YFT in tow behind them!!
Hi Ryan. You really need to visit and put your body to the test against one of these Fin. Thats before your body is not strong enough forthe task. Regards from Liz.

Boat Side
Howzit Adam, was very surprised, it should have taken me about 1 hour and 15 min for this size but the hook was in its gullet and it choked.

Tough buggers when they get that big.

Stocks
Catch 22, what are the YFT stocks like over in South Africa?
Have the size and numbers of fish declined over the years?

Good to hear
That's good to hear about the increase in numbers and size. Love for that to happen at the back of Rotto or Kalbarri.
