Fishing Carnarvon

Hi all i am new to this forum but not to fishing Smile I am taking my mad fishing family to Carnarvon in july for two weeks and was wondering if anyone can tell me what the fishing is like up there and maybe if anyone has a few fishing spots . I have a 23 foot boat so up to 30 mile is no trouble.

Fishing Carnarvon is hard work weather wise.

No easy days usually.

Fish yes but hard work usually.

only thing russel, is that if the winds come up there, last thing you want to do is be stuck somewhere for 2 weeks with no where to go boating, is there protected areas or other options there as well though?

I know the jetty was badly damaged by a fire recently. Not sure what the fishing situation on the jetty is like at the moment.
According to Fisheries these are the top landbased spots near Carnarvon. Old Boundary, Two Mile, High Rock, Whistling Rock, Garth’s Rock and Camp Rock.

“These locations are popular with land-based game fishers, who come from across WA and Australia to target a variety of species, including Spanish mackerel, tuna, cobia and even billfish,” according to a local Fisheries guy.
All the best, Colin Hay

I read an article recently about a guy catching some big fish throwing poppers into the open areas between the reef and the shore on some of the beaches north of Carnarvon.
Hope you have a ball.
I hope to get up there and have a fish sometime soon.

I feel i am one of the lucky one as my whole family enjoy fishing so much so that i cant get our there to fish with out them ha ha ha but i would not have it any other way.

We have to make the most of this year as my oldest son starts working next year and we may be perth bound for a few years .

Will let you know how we went when we get back

An extra coupla hundred k's will get you to Coral Bay or a little further to Exxie. Alternatively you could try Gnaraloo - approx 150k from 'Narvon but a hike heading in.

cheers Mick
