PB Dogtooth
Howdy All. I just completed some work in Cairns and then sailed from there back to Pohnpei. On the way we fished a magic place called Lyra Reef. It was a pretty ordinary trip weather wise, with me spending the first two days seasick, and I don't get seasick. But the fishing Gods smiled upon us and when we got to Lyra the wind stopped, the swell stopped and the current slowed. Like I said magic. Within five minutes of us trolling we picked up a small wahoo, then all hell broke loose. Over the next three hours I landed nine dogtooth tuna and a spanish mackeral. The other lads landed another 12-15 between them. I was the only one using a diver, the rest all stuck with their surface skirts. The diver was definately the winner on the day. My best fish went an estimated 25-28kgs and pulled like a train. We stopped the boat to clean up and I was asked if I wanted to have a jig. Instantly all of me weariness left me and within two minutes I had gathered my jigging rod and was sending a 80g jig down. I felt a couple of touches on the way down, hit the bottom, three twitching jigs and bang, the rod is nearly ripped out of my arms. A solid red bass that felt bigger than it ending up being as I was spent from all the effort put into the earlier doggies. I only dropped down two more times for a good trevally and a lost jig to an unknown. As much as I wanted to keep fishing, I had nothing left in the tank. Absolute first time for everything. I could hardly raise my arms to wash off the blood in the shower. An awesome session.

Good work mate! Doggies have
Good work mate! Doggies have to be my favourite fish! If you catch them on jig, the feeling is even better than trolling especially when you feel the fish strikes the jig.

Lyra Reef
I'm guessing you would be right. Throw 'Lyra Reef' into Google Earth and you'll see why. It's pretty remote. The kind of place people would pay $1000 a day to fish.

Sounds awesome - a truly remote spot
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.
