The Spanish Fly

ESPN on Foxtel. Jose catches some awesome fish, always in style. The episode where he jigged up a huge dogtooth in the Coral Sea is pretty hard to beat.

Don't get Fishing WA here

Sat, 2006-08-19 17:28

Don't get Fishing WA here but from what I'm aware of it's a pretty good show. Best thing about it, you wouldn't have to watch any east coast fishing... plenty of stuff from our state.

I voted for IFish, but I also like Fishing North Australia which isn't listed. Hosted by the good man AJ, plenty of barra action as well as offshore bottom bashing, GT fishing and anything you can expect from the top end.

G'Day Tapout

Sat, 2006-08-19 18:36

Used to be on Tuesday nights (12.00pm Perth time)with a host of other shows (Big Game Fishing the World, Ocean Adventures etc) in a 3 hr block. They used to call it Saltwater Sunday. Shows are still on now but its now Bass Season so all the shows are bass related.
Saturday mornings (early) still has some shows as well.

Discovery has a show 'Hooked on Fishing' which is also quite good, but its now been replaced by the Buena Vista Fishing Club which I haven't seen yet (Sat 12.00pm).

Hey Jay, I've got some of those Fishing North Australia videos. Good action on them, Alex gets quite excited at times.

What about Peter Morse and Wildfish

Sat, 2006-08-19 18:45

Personally I voted for FWA only because they had more action than travelogue, which really p1ssed me off about Rex.

The wildfish series was pretty laid back but well filmed and always informative. I'm not a big freshwater fisherman but some of the inland waterway sessions were awesome (Barra, Trout etc)

Cheers

It Hasn't Been Produced Yet!

Sat, 2006-08-19 19:52

It's not listed above, because it hasn't been produced yet, since it is in casting, pre-production planning & prospectus preparation stage !

Along with the magazine, & book, the TV show is called predictably enough "Fly West", & stars of course, predictably enough the effervescent onscreen personality - Moir! (who else?)!! LOL LOL

It's working subtitle?......."An estoteric ramble thru the tangled shrubbery of one mans muddled mind!"....

It works along the general premis..." My life - is based...on a true story".......and follows the life of a "Average Joe" who buys a 40ft steel hulled charter yacht, and sails all up n down the West Oz coast, with his 25ft Charter boat, and 17 ft flats boats, towed along behind....

He has local, interstate, & international Fishing luminaries, aboard as guests, (Like Jose!) who fly in from all over the world, to join him 'n his fishing family, spending a week - 10 days on board as special guests, fly fishing & scuba diving, some unusual or remote spectacular islands locations, all along the West Oz coastline. All the while, supping on the states finest wines and cold beers, eating the finest fresh produce this grate state produces - principally freshly prepared local seafood.

Screening the 1 hours TV show specials live simulcast/ broadcast online, from the onboard studio via sattelite.

The online Magazine issues quarterly, and - the highlights go into a large coffee table sized "Fly West" full gloss book covering the very best that WA has to offer the travelling international fly fisherman, with insights from an international perspecive, is put together, as a limited edition leather bound autographed volume, with the producers, stars &guests autographs all inlcluded, from the highlights of the shows and magazines articles produced!

Expected to rival "Alby Mangles" for the sheer number of gorgeous gals in skimpy bikini's, (Casting couch tests currently underway) this epic will make the NAFTA magazine look PG rated!

Investors are looking at 500 - 1000% returns over 2-3 year production & print run period, with local, interstate & international TV rights pre sales guaranteed!

All the seafaring history of the discovery of the WA coastline by the Dutch & French sailors included along the way! Exploring everything from the Recherche Archipellago - to the Montebello's and Kimberleys, taking in The Abrolhos Islands and Shark Bay's Dirk Hartog Islands - Exmouth and the islands off Dampier/burrup penninsular!.

Very much an laid back Aussie "Jaques Cousteaux" type family, feel to it...and showcasing the BEST that the West has to offer the world.

Intending investors, can apply direct for investment prospectuses in blocks of $1MAus or upwards! Investors who are NOT international fishing luminaries get a week - 10 days aboard in between invited fishing luminaries guests appearances and also feature in the shows, magazine and Book - so by the end of the series they WILL be internationally recognisable fishing luminaries!

Should be a winner I think! ;o)

Cheers!

ESPN Citgo Bass tourny's ....watchin one right now ;)

I voted i-fish only due to the fact they imbrace the newer styles of fishing, as opposed to rexxy who'd use bait alot of the time. And well FWA is self explanitory :P *cough*squeelin steeve*cough*

So john, is the spanish fly still on? ive only been watchin the bass tournys since i got foxtel a little while back.

TV Fishing

Sun, 2006-08-20 12:37

It's a tough ask these days to sell a TV fishing show. Most the programming execs are wimmin and to them fishing is a blood sport - they would sooner get wet spots in their knickers watching Jamie Oliver and other limp wristed gaey cooks!

OK - If you offer the station a guaranteed $500K alcohol advertising contract, to go along with the show - then you can BUY yourself a slot on TV, but in reality your giving the TV show to the station and they are paying you a small portion of the advertising your bringing in.

Without Booze you can't sell fishing to TV - tis that simple.

Reality TV is where it's all at today - TV stations don't have big production budgets any more from which to pay to produce quality shows or buy quality ready made shows produced privately - thats just the way it is!

It seems as tho - the reality TV craze - (where the 1900 numbers all PAY for their participation / vote) is whats ruling the airwaves because it's a NEW income source for the TV networks - interactive TV (just like the internet for those non compter literate folks with a mobile phone who can text message).

So I am guessing, whoever comes up with the reality TV fishing show Idea (Vote the worst presenter off!) LOL LOL - will win the airwaves for Fishing TV!

Maybe vote the hottest chiky babe in Bikini's aboard, or something...maybe vote whether the fish is realeased or filleted - whatever. That will likely end up being - what we end up seeing and UNLESS more than 50% of the show is on how to cook the fish with a limp wristed gaey cook - then the female TV programming execs won't buy it, without something to get their pantys wet over!

Sad but thats the game these days!

Cheers!

Fishing WA

I must say Steve annoys the crap out of me but that new Guy Jacko takes the cake.Ive seen a couple of episodes were he is a guest and cant stand him. Now I havnt seen much of Nick Hocking yet but he seems watchable. Ryan also is easy to watch and accually nows what hes doing. Now Why do they have to have one idiot out of too each season. Why dont they pair up Ryan and Nick and be done with it.Im pretty sure more people would watch if they didnt make us watch these idiots.

My wife recons it looked like a seagull had shit in his hair , HA HA .

I didn't watch todays show and the wife said it was the NZ thing anyway , not good for us but good for them , a paid holiday to NZ , we don't really need any more NZ trout fishing shows / episodes.

Like how many people are going to go snakehead fishing in Malaysia or where ever they went last year ????????

I have gone off the mags and shows lately it's all the same and you can see when they make a mistake they pan away to show a breaking wave or something .

Come on not every one that watches are 10 year old idiots , we can tell if the fish is going to make it , keeping a fish out of the water for 3 or 4 mins while you tell how wonderfull the fish is and all the other crap they say then throw the fish in and DON'T follow it to show it swimming off shows it was bloody dead before it hit the water , I have fished enough to know you DON'T keep a fish out of water that long and expect it to swim off , even with some attention like swimming the fish or using a release weight ain't going to help the fish .

ENOUGH from me tho , maybe I better get some rose coloured glasses for Icast & series 7 of FWA this summer .

Even Hal told them to shut up and get the fish back in the water on Saturdays episode.

Aahh sure thing!

Mine was however - a pretty TIC (Tongue In Cheek) post! ;o)

My days of fishing for the camera are, I would venture, probably well n truly over!

Apart from the few measely $Million venture capital that Andy Mac proffered up for the venture, out of his petty cash tin, - so far, we haven't been stampeded with prospectus offers, accompanied by large cheques!

LOL LOL!

You'd see a big wink and a ROFLMAO emoticon here if we had some!

Cheers!

If you can see me in real life you will see why I havn't got my mug on telly or even in a mag , I have the fishing pics but no one willing to print them .

Maybe we should get the top 12 fishing pics every year on FW and make a calendar for the members .

Calender

Mon, 2006-08-21 11:41

The calender was an idea that Gully told me about a while ago, only problem being that hot girls seem to get a bit more publication than us fisho's. If, as Flywest points out, that the petty cash tins starts filling up it will certainly be on the cards. Just gotta see how the hats and tanktops go this summer. I will start up a new photo of the month competition soon as well.

some one mentioned.....

Mon, 2006-08-21 16:54

.... having Nicko and Ryan co-hosting FWA. Now, having been on board Ryans vessel with both of em i can say it'd make for interesting viewing....
:-0, both very, very experienced fisho's, and i can vouch for the amount we mere mortal fisho's can learn from 'em... i know i certainly acted the sponge on the day out i spent with em, absorbing as much as i could.

But both of em co-hosting..... hmmmm, prolly not such a bad idea, not real feasible IMO, but a good idea none the less

Well just watched Big Fish

Sun, 2006-08-27 11:51

Well just watched Big Fish on Discovery channel, its an aussie fishing show, but holy sheet they are dumbass's. Fishing the kimberly for queenfish and the host AND the guide(who owns a multimillion dollar tourist business) both called a golden trevally a queenfish. WTF, seriously they need some more knowledgeable guys hosting these shows. And the host of the show couldnt use an overhead or handle fish for shit.

Mon, 2006-08-28 16:52

Loved the weekend fishing WA show. Quite enjoyed the, Steve, you pay me to catch fish, so I catch them. Sounded like there were a few bites in the boat that day, don't blame Ryan with a hook in the leg either.
