1-3kg rod with 6lb braid

I'm planning on buy a 1-3kg pflueger trion (which is on sale for $99 at bcf) paired with a sienna 1000fd for bream fishing with light lures.

I looked for some 4lb braid on their website but they only had fins and fireline which I heard is crap.

I did however find some sunline super pe 6lb which is I heard is great and I'm considering buying it with 8lb leader but would there be a big difference between 4lb and 6lb and would it be worth it? I do also go to fremantle and fish some flathead and skippy if that helps.

Fins...

...Paul Worsterling on Ifish swears by it but they are also a huge sponsor of his so...

Got some of that Berkeley Nanofil in 4 lb out of curiosity, it's supposed to be "not mono and not braid", which sounds like a bit of a gimmick...and maybe it IS a gimmick, but I gotta say, it's brilliant for casting 2 gram lures at whiting.

with fireline on the lighter spin outfits and find it really good. Had no dramas with it.

I use 4lb fireline on my 1000 stradic. Not interested in wank factor jap braid ( used it before ). Never once had a problem with fireline and it's reasonably priced.

4lb fireline

4lb fireline all the way i tried that sun line crap a while ago nothing but dramas on the lighter lines, way too thin, so the casting and wind knots you get is annoying. Ive used nothing but fireline and recently fins for the past 4 years of breaming and not a drama, andive done allot of fishing with these lines.

Paul Worstling would say a piece of string is the best if his sponsors tell him to say it.

Althought I like ifish, that show is just one big advertisement lol.

Anyhow, thanks everyone for the info, I might go with 4lb fireline and a 6lb leader. :)

Sunline

Tue, 2015-01-06 09:15

Ive got 8lb sunline super PE on my rarenium 2500 and cant fault it. Yes it is quite thin and tying good leeder knots (i use an FG) in the beginning does take a little more practice. Im running low on line and will be re-spooling with sunline soon.

Just another opinion if your still looking around.

I've got 4lb YGK WX4 which I got from Tackleworld and it is far superior to the Fins I have spooled on my other 1000 reel, it's like cotton and casts a mile

Fireline

Tue, 2015-01-06 09:34

I used to use 4 and 6lb fireline alot but recently changed to Sunline PE in 6lb on my bream/whiting outfit.

I honestly think I will go back to fireline.

Just find Sunline a little too supple and being ultra thin has less abrasion resistence and is harder to tie.

Not a huge difference but enough to warrant a change.

I have recently spooled my sienna 2500fd with 6lb fireline after having some other 6lb braid on it and it was one of the best moves I've done on light gear. Go the fireline you won't regret it

I looooooove my fins. 4lb on all my bream reels and it has never frayed apart from when a big bream swam around a rock and it still was good. I really recommend it because it stays nice and strait, and doesn't fraye easily and is easy to do nots with it. I really recommend it

+1 for nanofil

Tue, 2015-01-06 23:23

Just got a 2000 daiwa aird combo for bream, whiting etc, had some 6lb fireline at home which served me well but i went for 4lb nanofil instead and cant say id go back at this point, casts effortlessly even tho i didnt fill the reel too well (probly get another 100 yards of this stuff on its so thin) so sensitive i personally found converting bites to hookups with finicky bream improved double.

I will say knotwise took some altering, started using the fg knot with my braid to leaders and never had a knot fail but 4lb braid to 5lb leader it seemed to cut but double unis with 10 and 12 wraps and no probs on bream and some decent flatties.

2lb Fireline on CI4+ Stradic

Wed, 2015-01-07 09:47

I have actually been using the 2lb fireline and it is strong seriously strong, I did a few test breaking strains in the shop before purchase and it holds, landed an eagle ray on the stuff so thin yet so strong compared to other braid like berkley nanofill is rubbish 6lb has such a low breaking strain and has no abrasion resistance.
