if your doing mainly beach fishing then go for the 12ft, does a big difference when trying to cast as far as possible.

it all depends on if you can

it all depends on if you can cast a 12 foot rod. sometimes you can get a batter cast with a smaller rod. bigger rods can be benificial to get out over the breakers rather than getting dragged back in with the whitewash. also what reel would you be running on it

Question

One more question, how big are you? Have seen blokes buy things that resemble power poles and then they find they haven'y got enough strength to give it justice and the other way round where someone is trying to belt a big lead and a livie out o na bit of plasticine.

What do you want to catch, how far do you need to cast, what size baits, lures, beach, rock and a heap more that you have to answer before you go looking.

A 10 ft-er should handle

A 10 ft-er should handle that job, also you can use it for most shore based spinning, not just shore breaks
