18th feb afternoon Tiger

2m tiger caught landbased. Had another wicked fast run, but spat the hooks.
We had 2 Balloons out about 50m apart from each other and about 300m out, and there was a XXXL Fin circling one balloon at a time, then did some aerials, and thrashed around for a bit and effed off.

umm. it was a custom 7ft
umm. it was a custom 7ft ballooning rod, and a tekota 800 with 300mts of 40lb mono on top of 300mts of 40lb braid. 2mts of multistrand wire onto 3 10/0 kirbys. And for bait i used a butterflied mullet. :) hope that helps
It was a pretty easy fight, until it saw me, then my tekota started singing.

great catch, just wondering
great catch, just wondering why do you put the mono and so much of it ontop of braid?
Jeffree

I put the mono ontop because
I put the mono ontop because when the fish gets close to the rocks the line tends to rub on the reef, so i like to use mono for its abrasion resistance. Although that doesnt explain why i have 300m of it? so honest answer would be that i spooled my reel with 300m of braid, and added the mono later for distance and abrasion resistance. so 2 birds one stone sorta thing. hope that made sense.

Knew it
Knew there would be at least one captain planet here.
From what i know and hear, tigers are just as good as any shark. Nothing was wasted. I use to work in a fish and chip shop, and have mates who run fish and chip shops, and shark happens to be my favourite. So no, i will not throw this one back, or the next one i catch, unless i catch three in one day ;). Hope this clarification puts your concern at ease my friend :)
Will upload fotos of my filleting efforts :)

I am with everyone here bar one
fair game if you dont break the rules to take what you have caught, provided its not killed and dumped.
Here all is very cool. Nice fish and love the fillets. I prefer other fish, but nothing wrong with Fish and chip flake.

haha unintended pun!?
I'm only posting about it cos i found it funny and maybe help you avoid ostracising certain groups.... BUT unless you were actually intending the pun, it's "tight knit".
What you are referring to, are the people who apparently keep undersize fish ;)
PS: I too am an asian who doesnt keep undersize fish and sorry if the pun was completely intended. Also nice catch!!

more sharks now
been fishing almost 20 years now, but seems to me that more sharks are being caught of local spots lately especially tigers. never knew that they are that bloody common, seen some bronzies caught but never tigers. never going to swim ever again.

Ballooning
Hey Jeffree, Just wondering when you say ballooing is it ballooning with helium or just a balloon as a float?
If possible could you give me a few hints on rig set up, im very interested in giving it a go one day..
Cheers mate ........ Belly.

Really depends on what the
Really depends on what the winds are doing. Most of the times i have my main line connected to a 3way swivel, and then 2m of multistrand wire onto 3 10/0 kirbys. and attatch the balloon on the 3rd hole on the swivle by 6lb line and let the wind and current take out the balloon (no helium). But some days like when the winds are real weak, i do use helium like today with shebet (too bad there was no fish today) but thats a tottaly different set up and would need to do a drawing to fully explain lol
