1Kw chirp transducer

A mate has got an HDS 12 gen 3 and he bought a B175m 1 Kw chirp transducer. As the HDS only puts out 500 watts should he have just got a 600 watt transducer or will the 1 KW outperform the smaller one ?

1 kw heaps better even if
1 kw heaps better even if only 250 W firing it.
