bummer

but what do you mean by pretty much blown it up?

A 2006 outboard with 100 hrs, thats 15 hrs a year.

With 4 strokes (and should be these also) its more likely lack of use thats going to cause problems such as cracked impellors, bee nests in cooling passages, stuck thermostats etc and accumulated corrosion.

If the owner has taken the blurb of 300hr services seriously then that could be a problem? The yanks "winterize" them but much of what they do is relevant if its going to sit for a long period regardless of the temp.

So Im wondering what is actually failing on this one and why?

e-tec 225

I have a mate with twin e-tec 225hp high output versions of about that vintage.  He has had overheating issues with both powerheads and both units were replaced by Evinrude after a lot of dialogue.  A bit of Googling and a look at the website above should turn up which models are affected and what problems are being experienced.

Ive got a 250 etec that has has a heap of issues, they hate water in the head like most motors whether it comes through the fuel or exhaust ports. They also have a problem with the poppet valve at the top having corroded nuts and spraying water straight into the stator but you wont see this until you are over 1800rpm.BRP have issued a fix for this so check with that as well.Best thing to do id get it looked at by a tec and contact your insurance. Its taken a while to get mine sweet but now I take the cover off after each trip and wash down under the coverl. It may be that a new donk will be a cheaper option sorry to say.

 I have a 06 75hp with 250hrs

I have a 06 75hp with 250hrs and had no problems yet. I hope if it is a repair that the dealer mechanic finds out what the problem is. With the new clean two strokes fuel delivery is very important with correct I.D supply hoses and no air leaks in the system causing a lean out.

Etec owners group is a great site and Huey site mod is based in Sydney and he is THE Etec global guru.
