21ft fraser vixen

Hi guys jst after some advice of what to do with my 21ft fraser vixen , has a 4 cylinder volvo penta the aq130c which is stuffed dont know weather to rebuild it or to discard it , was looking at the etec 150 but that would definatly break the bank and is way out of my reach so tossing up what to do not sure what it would cost to do a full rebuild on the penta.

Ben,

Have you thought about getting a full factory  rebuild, dont know if Volvo do them worth a call to Seapower in Freo, they are Volvo Engine dealers, just a suggestion.

Jim.

if your looking at repowering with a stern drive we run a 350 chev from chevpower in our 23 ft fraser, purrrs like a tiger, might be worth a look at what sort of motor you can just drop in your boat using the existing leg

Have done both in the past

Hi Ben
I have a 21 foot penguin that had a Volvo Aq140a motor in it .I have owned the boat for 20 years. In the past I have done a couple of full rebuilds, but 18 months ago I repowered with a small mercruiser 135 hp and couldn't be any happier. If you want any info send me a pm . More than happy to help with any info that I can.

repower

Sat, 2009-09-19 12:34

Ben Just finished a repower into a Chivers 20 ft.

Had the old Ovlov AQ145 and have installed a 5 litre 260 hp EFI mercruiser.

The 4.3's are also a good motor I hear. I went away from volvo because of servicing costs. They were very competitive on the price and offered a duoprop leg in the package which nearly won me over. Pm me and I can give you more info.

With Mercruiser make sure you get a written quote UP FRONT.

I made some enquiries and was impressed with one particular co but they would NOT give me a written quote.

They wanted a "deposit" up front BEFORE the quote.

Alarm bells rang and I kept shopping.

I finally did the upgrade through Troy @ "The Boat Business" in Henderson. They gave absolutely fantastic service oh(and a written quote up front) and they have access to Northshore boats, Paul, for all your glasswork. He is a wealth of knowledge, honest and does an excellent job.

Again PM me for more if your interested.

cheers

shane

external motor

Ben , have no idea on the replacement cost of the inboard , mandurahs boat show in two weeks so thats worth looking at for a better deal, i started looking at a baron a few years back and was going to remove the inboard and glass up the hole and put an outbaord on a pod , would give you a heap more deck space not having the motor internal , its worth a look and price comparison
