24ft centre console recommendation

Hi, Looking at upgrading in the near future, i have been looking at couple of f/g centre console 24-25ft in length. Really like the 25ft trophy cc but it's beam width is putting me off I'd prefer the beam to be under 2.5m for towing, if you have one or been in a 24-25ft cc I would like to hear your opinion good or bad. ride quality and build etc Regards Justin

Hard to go past one of the Haines formula derivatives.
Peter Milner Yachts or Fury are a couple of the WA ones.

Angler Panga 26 foot

Thu, 2012-09-06 13:41

and 2.4m beam, cruise 27knots at 3,600 rpm on Optimax 225 and a bit over 1litre/mile at 27knots, all up on aluminium trailer with some fuel about 2.25 tonne.  Read some reviews, go to anglerboats.com, Pangaforum.com and see other panga options as well.  I have had one for 2 years now, the best fishing boat I have had and I have had a few.  Ride is great, we fish 3 out the side no problems.

Dan1 where did you find the info on vehicles over 2.7? And where do you get the permit?

I have a 25 foot trophy and have just ignored the width of it and towed it anyway.... probibly only a matter of time until I get picked up!

If you could send me a link on the info it would be greatly appreciated!!

A couple of second handies, depends what you want to spend really. We`ve got a PMY, never been on a blackwatch but thats the same hull.

Plenty of yank boats around too.

 Ours was the last one.

Ours was the last one. Picked it up 20 december 2008 and they shut the doors behind us on an empty shed. Northshore boats in Henderson have the moulds I think now.

the two links below marble posted - bit of friday morning trivia... notice how the black watch (US) is right hand drive and the PMY (Oz built) is left hand drive ... :-) haha - yep got plenty of time on my hands at work today!

Heres a curly one for you Pelagic

Fri, 2012-09-07 09:53

Do the yanks run the old blackwatch moulds for the stringers ect? Or are they running the US style miles apart system?Do they use the good resins ect? The yank boats look the goods until you get down to the nuts and bolts of them. Like a Thailand hooker, look the goods until you lift the skirt and not find what you are expecting for the money.

mate i dont know specifically

Fri, 2012-09-07 12:09

mate i dont know specifically about BW -i do know (after loofing at a lot of different makes of imported boats) that you get what you pay for!
Contender boats (i have no affiliation with them - or any brand for that matter!!) would have to be one of the best built boats i have seen (i am not a shipwright btw - but after time you get to understand the shortcuts some take and the cost of quality in good boats)
They have glassed in knees under the gunnels and braced stringers (at lest in the one i saw) - "Post" (make larger flybridge boats) are another fantastic build -
Even quality builders go through a dark period -Bertram had a bad run a few years ago with hulls delaminating. You can eye a boat pretty quickly fo quality - if its got cheap cr @ppy fittings you can ensure the bits you cant see are going to be awful - cut corners like fishboxes (in the floor) without drains are a clear sign that the boat was built to price from the early point of mould construction - this does not mean it wont be a "good boat" but just gives you some clues as to where it sits on the cost curve!
I have only really had a good look at one blackwatch a 26 centre console (thinks its forsale still) with twin 2 stroke mercs -it was a late 80's or early 90s model and it looked very well put together - you know when u thump the side with your fist and its sore afterwards that they didnt scrimp on glass :-)

Left hand drive is the shit.

Fri, 2012-09-07 12:35

Left hand drive is the shit. . . Skipper ( me) doesnt get as wet coming home in a shitty souwester down south and the way we bottom fish I can drive the boat and fish with rod in left hand, no swapping hands when I get a fish on like I used to have to do on a right hand drive c/c .

Pretty sure some BW 25`s where built in QLD, deep vee built a few too.

Not sure if Northshore still going, pretty sure they havent built a 24 since they got the moulds.

We paid a premium price for our PMY but its a custom setup with some pretty good gear in it, at the time a yank boat was the same money and we couldnt custom it at all. Its pretty cool being able to see it every weekend as its going together too ;-) I`m not gunna say how much on a public thread though
