28 Nov 2009: PGFC FADs launch
I volunteered to help launch the FADs today with the PGFC on the Maritime Image. About half a dozen of us met up at the jetty in Freo, the FADs having been loaded the night before.
It was a pretty blustery morning, certainly it would've been unpleasant on a smaller boat and that wind was freezing. We made pretty good time none the less and launched them largely without incident*.
The weather really fined up on the way in though, half thinking about heading out again when I got home, but I missed the window dammit.
You can see the weather really fined up later in the day.
PS: ta for the half a sanger George!

They're in the same places
They're in the same places every year, and they're marked on all charts.
The float is fairly large, and there is a bit more to it than that.
Up top there is the float, then 10m of chain, then a shrouded swivel, 300m rope, then some heavy chain, then another 300m of rope, another 10m chain, then an anchor, another 5m chain and another anchor. In fact, the new one All Marine Services has 3 anchors and another 300m of rope.

The co-ords on the chart dont change every year but the final resting place does....the update helps narrow it down!
Well done to all that got them in the drink, roll on!

Yeah, and that is last
Yeah, and that is last year's update. The creation date is 31/01/2007 and the modified date is 16/01/2008.
Not sure they have posted anything else yet this year, but I'm sure everyone will be very happy with how close we got them to the marks.
I'm told it was a pretty streamlined effort this year.

Good Job
Jamie, without a doubt it was the easiest and most coordinated FAD launch the Club has probably had. Its hats off to all the volunteers that put in their time and effort to assist a program that is used by many.
Cheers
