Time reported

Wed, 2014-02-05 13:27

Makes you wonder why they were not reported missing until 7.30am this morning if they were due back at 10pm last night.

This just goes to show the importance of logging on with your local sea rescue group. If they had not returned by the expected ETA procedures are in place to locate them. Radio calls made, phones called and check made to see if trailer still in car park. Within a certain amount of time a search would commence. If they had logged on with Fremantle or Cockburn sea rescue and they knew there rough locatioon they would have been found last night. We have state of the art equipment (FLIR cameras) on all our vessels allowing us to search at night.

The other question is did they have an EPIRB and why was it not activated.

They are very lucky

I think a lot of us would like to know why there was time to get the lifejackets but not the EPIRB or make a mobile or UHF/VHF distress call

I can only imagine it all happened extremely quickly and they were lucky enough to get the lifejackets or they floated up

They did the right thing of staying together for warmth and an easier target to see

I would like to know what

Wed, 2014-02-05 15:44

I would like to know what everyone elses process is with logging on with Sea rescue.

I know two rocks is not manned until 7am from memory, and a lot of people leave well before that time. Heading out wide also means crap mobile reception.

Are other sea rescue groups manned earlier?

Whitfords

We (Whitfords Sea Rescue) operate 24 hrs 365 days a year radio coverage.

If calling from Two Rocks wait until about 500mtrs offshore before calling.

27mhz may struggle but VHF will be fine.

If you still can't get us then call the tower on 94013757 to leave your details etc.
