Hi Fishwreckers,
Just noticed a advertisement for the above, to be held at Woodman Point Public Boat Ramp on the 19th February, 2012 from 6.00am
Just my thoughts, its taken 5yrs to get the crabs back in the Sound, what are your thoughts on this, not stirring just a honest opinion.

Is there a tagged crab or
Is there a tagged crab or something ?
If folks are only chaseing one and keep to their limits keeping a few more i see no problems, i guess most people will be snorkling to spot the crab if its tagged,,

Hi Shorty
yes one tagged crab is $1,000 and 4 tagged crabs of $250 each plus other prizes. 1 waeco fridge 40L with cover for the heaviest weight of ten crabs, 1 Lowrance sounder for the biggest crab and many more novelty prizes, plus a Free sausage sizzle after weigh in
Its being run by the ww.fremantlerecreationalfishingclub.com.au, details will be on their web site most probably.

frustrated at these fishing comps
I dont understand how these comps are allowed to run, as you said it has taken years to get a reasonable amount of crabs in the sound for them to now get flogged out in one weekend.
Im not against fishing comps and participate in many of them each year but when everyone is targeting 1 specie in a limited area it puts alot of pressure on there sustainability. The exact same goes for the squid comp we have every year.
Imagine if we had a dhufish fishing comp or a snapper fishing comp in the sound what it would do to there stocks, and why arent fisheries stepping in and actually doing some reasearch into the effects these comps could be having. Would be interesting to see if they even know they are going on.
There must be an approval needed from the council to set something like this up ????
Fish for the future ??? I think not

its not a case of lighten up
it took a three year ban on cockburn sound crabbing to get the stocks up to a reasonable level, I think it is quite irresponsible of an angling club to hold such an event in such a confined area targetting a single species. They can take 2 - 3 years to reach maturity and legal size. If they cop a flogging again then we may see another 2 or 3 year ban introduced.
Spoon - Squid are a fair bit different in that they are born, grow and die in around 6 - 12 months so they tend to have a very quick life cycle.

Ill probably be crabbing
Ill probably be crabbing somewhere else on that date. Not interesting in prizes or a cramped boat ramp, hopefully it will make for a quite day out elsewhere.
