6 days in Dunsborough

Starting today, would love to get a few crays from diving & maybe a dhu or pinky for my oldies visiting from Queensland. Could possibly juggle the new baby and get out a 2 or 3 of times but never been here before. Had a look at canal rocks ramp this morning but would be difficult for my 74 yo dad to control the boat there if it blows up a bit coming in, so will probably need to launch at quindalup.

Looking for suggestions on areas to target. Saw naturalist reef (longish hike)and wrights bank on navionics. Are these worth a look? I would like to get around the west of the cape if the weather allows as well. Anyway, any pointers from locals about current conditions & pointers about general directions would be appreciated.

Wrights Bank and Natto reef are both reasonably hard to fish in a big swell, Wrights generally has a strong current going through, but it can fish well. Drag a lure behind the boat, usually something will grab it, YTK or mackies. Natto reef is 13 nautical miles out from the end of Natto Cape. A big swell will break on it but usually worth the drive out. Keep an eye on the sounder as you go, because you'll go over some good ground in places.

Pinks and dhues in close at the moment. Don't need to go too far to find them. Lots of big sand whiting in 30m off Meelup and quite a few tuna around also.

Crays are everywhere so definately worth a dive. For a casual day cruise the bay and sight cast at salmon while having a coldie.

What boat do you have?
