600W vs 1KW

Just chasing a few opinions on both transducer options for a Furuno 585.

If fishing in depths of less than 100m is the 1KW going to be any more effective than the 600W. In other words will the more powerful transducer show more detail despite the water depths being less than 100m?

The only reason i got the 1KW transducer for my unit is for the deep water stuff. Have been told and have seen the photos of it working in 500mtrs of water. The Furuno 585 will also handle the 1KW as it is a true 1KW sounder not a 6oowatt running a 1kw transducer. My understanding is that it would have to improve picture quality and detail.

i have fcv585/600w and fish

i have fcv585/600w and fish 40- 90m and its good . at 70m the gain is aroung 6-7
in 220m the gain is near full and only really good at 5knots. so a 1kw is on the cards for deeper water and also when travelling in deeper water to find new ground at a reasonable speed.

Is that at 200kHz or 50kHz or both that you run out of puff at 220 meters??

misconception!

John,

It's a big misconception re if you fish shallow water you dont need 1kw. 600w and 1kw do the exact same thing in ALL DEPTHS "but" the difference is the amount of receiving echo information. So the 1kw in shallow water will give you more detail and will help with deep water slower/weaker returns of the 600w!

In saying this, the 600w is awesome but if you go the extra it'll benefit you also.

I run 2 by 2kw transducers

Looking at it from a horses for courses approach at the moment. 99% of my fishing will be getting done in less than 50 metres of water for the next few years and no doubt the boat will be getting parked on the odd sandy island or two.

The 600W transom mount with breakaway bracket is probably going to be the best option. Obviously when i end up back in Perth I'll be looking at the various 1kw transducer options. It means buying two transducers over time but at least the 600w ones are fairly cheap.
