Abrolhos plastics/jigs v baits

 hi all,

I'm off to the Abrolhos for a quick 2 day charter on Friday.

Just wondering whether I should pack my own gear and use jigs and plastics.

what is everyone's opinion for fishing the Abrolhos, jigs/plastics or baits?

cheers

Just got back from a charter

Mon, 2016-04-25 18:15

Just got back from a charter at the Abrohlos, we hard 4 on back deck fishing jigs and plastics and 7 on bait!

Although the bait properly out did the artificial they did catch more shit fish....sweatlip..lol

I was with the crew fishing artificial's and that's what I would recommend! Way more rewarding and easier going with the light gear!

I was using 1-1/2 & 2 for up to 40m, was using 90g to 120g jigs past that due to good winds, orange was a hit with plastics in both paddle tail and minnow, the Abrohlos jig did me well!

Perfect place to mix it up and have a go, good luck.

 Cheers lads. What pb braid

Mon, 2016-04-25 18:38

 Cheers lads.

What pb braid were using. I have a couple of spheres reels and a Stradic. Running 80, 40 and 20pb.

Wast thinking running the 80pb up there to reduce the chance of being reefed so I can lock it up if need be without risking losing a possible fish of a life time

What's your thoughts

You will get away with 20lb

Mon, 2016-04-25 19:10

You will get away with 20lb and 40, no need for 80lb

if you get a chance to fish the shallows, plastics dominate!! Say under 10m the baldies go mad on them!!

i used 27lb for all jigging and never got bricked and sharked only once. Jigs way out fished bait and definitely a lot less shit fish.

also coral trout love jigs!

 I was using 20lb on a 4000

Mon, 2016-04-25 19:52

I was using 20lb on a 4000 real and pulled good size fish, including an unexpected Sambo in the large varity.

Mate's were the same, only got smoked once....was funny shit!! youll have a blast if the weathers on..

As above...try different stuff....had a sore arm after 4 days so was using a slow lift with the jigs...landed a nice baldie during a quite period.

5-8inch any model in the zman

Mon, 2016-04-25 21:39

5-8inch any model in the zman range as theyre very hardy against the charlie courts (pests). 5inch streaks and paddlerz in the shallows for trout and baldies, 7 inch streakz and paddlerz for just about anything that swims out there, 8inch streakz for dhuies, pinks, macks and seriolas and my go to dhuie plastic out there would be 9 inch zman grubz in white or glow.
