Abrolhos rule changes

for those interested, there are some new rules coming into play within the next few weeks.
What used to be known as the "off season notification" has been changed to a year round notification.
Meaning that whenever you are heading over on your own vessel you need to submit a notification either online, email or in person.
I havent heard anymore other than the letter WAF has sent to fishermen but I believe they will be running an "education campaign" starting now.

Rule Changes
Interesting, don't know the full reason for previous out of season notification rule other than to keep track of visitor numbers, type of visit and for fisheries to locate you for checks. I filled out an out of season form a couple of years back, filled it out for 10 days and was only looking for a 4 day window to go, but didn't end up going. I never informed Gero fisheries and never had any checks from fisheries if I went or not. Depending on the new ruling a lot of people will be logging an out of season notification just as I had and only going for a few days or not at all, am I required to tell fisheries change of days within my notification or cancelation of notification. I presume this would need to be monitored in future for correct stats.

Thats a good point and one i wasnt going to mention here but i have had a similar conversation with them.
So far it hasnt mattered as i have never heard of fisheries following up or using the info for safety.
That may change now but I have discussed with them about if your notification expires, and the weather is too shit or whatever to come home.
My understanding of maritime law is that NOONE can order you (as skipper) to sea (or boarding etc) if you reasonably judge it to be hazardous to your vessel or passengers.
If they want to change it to exact days then there also needs to be a reliable way to change it when over there.
Personally ive found the FO's on the ground pretty personable and flexible but the office quite rigid

Hopefully they make it easy
Hopefully they make it easy and get back to you quickly when you apply to go over.
I cancelled 3 times this year before getting a window of opportunity.
Some sort of online system would be good.
