ABU 7000

Hi, Just looking to see if anyone has any suggestions for a suitable rod to match to my ABU7000 which I am keen to start using for some light driftbaiting and bottom fishing with 8kg. I have it mounted on an old Ugly Stik at the moment which has a very soft tip which makes setting hooks in any sort of depth of water difficult.

I am budgetting on around $100 for the rod.

Cheers  Steve

I second Rodrat...

My first real boat rod was a Sweden made Abu 7000 matched to a Silstar Crystal Power Tip... still have it.... Quality!!

My rod is rated 8-15kg's... and I run 15kg Platypus Low Stretch mono line... and I recommend it highly!!

25 years plus

I've had one for over 25 years still working perfectly and one for 20 years still like new! the fact they still make them exactky the same as 30 years ago is testament to the quality and reliability.

agreed

I agree with you Fishy, but I'm not sure the quality is still there on the new ones - I'm pretty sure Abu sold out and they are no longer making the 7000's in Sweden... the new ones are not the same as the old ones apparently

Mine would have to be 10-12

Fri, 2008-03-14 12:11

Mine would have to be 10-12 years old, any idea when they stopped making them in Sweden. The one I have is a "lucky" reel, if there is a spread of lures out the ABU will be the one that goes off
