Accurate BX600 v's SOM L120

Accurate Boss BX600;

  • twin drag system
  • 6061 T6 Aluminium
  • titanium drag washers
  • 6-7 class 5 abec ss with teflon impregnation
  • ss socket head screws, gears and springs
  • 737g
  • 4:1 ratio delivering 84cm per crank

I know for a fact that the regular model takes 600m of Daiwa Boat Braid PE6/80lb, I spooled mine myself, counting the colours on the way past. The spool width on the 600 is 44mm, dropping 8mm to 36mm for the 600N and a further 12mm to 24mm for the 600NN.

Accurate quotes the following for capacity;

  • 600: 576m of 65lb, 375m of 80lb
  • 600N: 457m of 65lb, 297m of 80lb*
  • 600NN: 274m of 65lb, 178m of 80lb*

* Extrapolated from other values

Studio Ocean Mark L120

  • PE8: 300, PE6: 400, PE5: 500, PE4:600
  • 11 bearings
  • 20kg drag
  • 780g
  • 5.4:1 or 116cm per turn, 3.7:1 80cm per turn

The L120 is a great reel, it just didn't have the capacity I wanted at the time. ZOMG they're expensive as well. We really put the pics up for a side-by side comparison. Looking at the capacity, the L120 is closest to the Accurate BX600N, they're both about 300m PE8.

Na the Accurate is mine, the SOM is SamC's and a big thanks to campbells for providing the carpet ;)

I occasionally pine for a slightly smaller reel than the BX600, loaded with 100lb, just so I can give it to the sambos.

Fri, 2010-11-12 19:25

The SOM L120 is about $950US, the Accurate boss is about half that. You do get something for the extra money though;

  • the L120 is rated to 20kg drag, the Accurate is only 15kg
  • the L120 has a few more bearings
  • the L120 has a longer handle

SOM would be nicer with capacity. I'm actually looking at purchasing a overhead reel to handle PE8 applications. After jigging with the ocea jigger, I was amazed at the cranking power at my disposal. Spin reels will take a rest for a while now.

Think I am almost due for a new PE6 OH outfit...

How do you rate that Accurate Jamie? Leaning towards a 3000/4000P OJ at the moment...

Daz: Just updated the SOM

Sat, 2010-11-13 11:33

Daz: Just updated the SOM L120 specs, its 780g.

Bones: If Daiwa made the saltiga 35 size in single speed, with a half decent ratio, it could be a jigging reel.

Shecky: I like it, its knocked over some good fish and I like LD over star drag. You can give it a crack sometime if you're on a boat with me. Mind you, you might be trying it on sharks the way this season is running!

can only comment on the SOM, got the lower speed one, love it, love the handle, and it balances really nicely on a smiths pe8 overhead jig rod!! Luckily Daz I had already forked out for the bling on the missus finger.

I can't edit my original post, but in this thread, I found out that the Accurate BX600N takes 350m of Daiwa Boat Braid PE8/100lb.
