Just wondering if anyone has any advice of where to head to try and catch some whiting. Launching from east freo boat ramp. Where and at what depth and time of day is best?

Whiting Tips
Whiting must be one of the most prolific species on the WA coast and can be caught from the beach all the way to 30+m.
A few tips for you. The feed on sand but just about every predator eats them so they dont mind if there is some weed beds close by for cover.
Drifting is a good way to find them and a nice Eastery helps because the bigger ones do tend to hang in the deeper water. Once you find them and are happy with the size you are getting then anchor up and drop a burley cage to just off the bottom. Fine burley and slow release so you dont over feed them.
The top tip for getting directions to where they are biting is. Go down to the boat ramp 20min after the sea breeze has kicked in. Look for a tinny with a couple of old Italians in it who have just come in and ask them. Every boat ramp in Perth will have them and they are masters at catching a feed. They will not tell you exactly but if they are feeling generous then you might get general direction and depth. That trick has worked for me at Hillaries, Mindarie and Two Rocks.
Sometimes when the water is quiet, you can hear the fish laughing at you !

20m zone between garden
20m zone between garden island and the 5 fathom bank
any time of day, any day of the year they there haha
just set up long drifts with 2 hook whiting patenosta rig an i used small pieces of gulp soft plastic as bait as it stays on longer
there are lots an lots of tiny flathead and small whiting but you will drift over small patches of the bigger fish when you find those spots then you can mark an go back over them
