Advice Wanted - Beach Rod & Reel
Hi,
Chasing some advice on a high quality beach rod and reel set up. I haven't done much from the beach so can't help too much.
My step dad is planning on spending a lot of time sitting out the front of camper vans on the beach in the next few months. He has a week booked at Lucky Bay (the northern one) from easter and a month booked at Ningaloo in a couple of months. Whilst he is a bit of a fishing novice, he is also a gear freak so is happy to pay at the higher end for good quality gear, and he intends to use it. I have sorted out a small rod/reel for him already, but am chasing something 9 - 12ft with a bit of a grunt with the expectation that something decent will swim past him in the 5 weeks that he has available. What do you recommend?
Thanks in advance,
Jarrid

No real need to get high end on first outfit.
Rod, reel and line at good end of gear selection should be able to be had for $350 .
What species you after? I'd expect a set up based around 20lb line usage with a long cast spool reel would be a good starting point.
I could fill the post about how good an Alvey is, but not always the best choice for a new starter.
Good luck. Post your selection when it's sorted.

If you're after no-nonsense
If you're after no-nonsense gear with a crazy amount of grunt that will last you ages with minimal care, look at either the Fin nor Lethal 100 or Pfleuger salt 80 running 40-50 lb braid on a composite or glass rod. For casting big baits and sinkers I'd personally stay away from graphite.
The above advice I've given is for if he's gonna be chucking out big baits and leaving the rod in the holder chasing big fish.
If he's after a lighter setup something like the Stradic 8000fj or Saragossa/Spheros 8000 sw on a daiwa sensor surf or Penn prevail running 30lb braid will also get the job done on most fish you'll hook from the beach and will be easier on the back and arms when fighting big fish.

Cheers guys. Have been
Cheers guys. Have been thinking Saragossa somewhere around that size. Target fish would be mulloway at lucky bay and whatever came through at Ningaloo. He wouldn't be into targeting sharks but would need to handle them as by catch. I am particularly interested in opinions on rods

If he wants a proper big
If he wants a proper big fish rod look at the Assassin Beachmaster series, can get them for around 300 shipped over from SA or otherwise 450-500 here, they come in spinning versions as well as overhead.
Otherwise as I mentioned before, prevails and sensor surfs are good as are Pflueger Cranks.

I got a 25000 gosa on an ozflex fjh 17 my heavy set up
I use to have the old model gosa 1400 but recently got a shamano ultegra ci4 it comes with three spools so you can cover all bases
Just my two cents on graphite rod there great to use but easy to break aspecally if travelling and getting knocked around so a glass rod might be the go if his a bit rough on his gear
I'm with hutch with the beach master it will out cast most rods awsome stick and if you wanna go top shelf saltiga or Stella would be the ultimate set up depending on budget
Pfluger salts and cranks are a good cheaper combo that should give you a few options from mid to top range
Qualified carpet layer available for jobs big and small

Personally I wouldn't want
Personally I wouldn't want to wreck a Stella by using it as a beach reel, can be expensive if you accidentally drop it in the sand
