Advice wanted for jigging set up.

Hi Everyone
I've new to the forum i've been reading posts on here for quite a while and thought it was time to sign up.

I'm looking at some Sambo jigging charters before the best part of the season ends and looking at what gear to bring.

I've got a a couple reels i'm looking at matching up some jig rods to my current reels and also what jigging line  would you reccommend to suit.
You're advice would be appreciated. I currently have:

Daiwa Catalina 4500 (Old Model)
Daiwa Catalina 6500 (Old Model) currently got 80 lb power pro.

I have a Saltiga S-Extreme 56 HFS Pe 4-6 that I use for kings here in SA not sure if it would suit Sambo jigging.

My budget for the rod is $500 Max each ( Would prefer something less if there was good option) & still deciding the budget to spend on the line but i want decent gear for the job.
I've looked at some of the Wilson jig rods that claim big pulling power and easy on the back but never used them before, from memory they were about $380 each.

Your saltiga rod will be perfect. Daiwa boat braid , cheap colour coded and very strong/thin. I like Jigging master rods and I don't fish any heavier than pe6 but mainly pe4

Sambo jigging

Fri, 2013-01-04 15:28

Hi mate,

It sounds like you have the reel situation under wraps. Your Saltiga rod will be more than suitable for sambos. As for another rod as hookt mentioned the Jigging Master rods are top notch. For a touch over $300 you can get the JM Ocean Devil Series which are a nice rod it also gives you a bit more spare cash to spend on things like Braid, Jigs and Terminal.

As for the Braid than the Nitlon PEX multi coloured is a very smooth braid and am currently using it on some of our heavier outfits. This retails for around $110.

Aware that you are over in S.A though if you would like more info let us know via PM, We also post to any where in Australia.

Cheers

Thanks a lot for your help guys.
I'm definately going to look into the JM rods I haven't really heard anyone say anything bad about them.
You;re right aswell I will need to beef up the current terminal tackle/ split rings etc.
The stuff i'm using is more suited to snapper rigs and the last thing I want to do it lose fish/jigs due to dodgy TT.

Yeah the JM products have a good rep. I almost bought some three kings special blanks in a little while back to build on but they were out of stock. I doubt I would have been disappointed. I'm really looking forward to the release of the Black hole 150 gram Cape Cod Special. It would go well with your 4500 Catalina. A cheaper option is the T curve deep jig 200. I really like that rod and it's well priced.

Any of the above will do the job nicely.

Jm gear

Thu, 2013-01-24 09:02

I've had alot if jm gear, rods are faultless imo and the eels are no different,
I'm using a jm 3 kings ul atm for dersmals and there is no way I would ever give that rod matched with stella 5k up, I've gone through so many different outfits and that was the end result,
As for heavier outfits I've had power spells 150,200,250,400,500g rods which I was happy with apart from the 150g which was replaced with 3 kings ul, and I've had ape4+6 reel and loved them both, the only thing that sort of bugged me after a bit was the clicking on the reel but now they have mute model
