Alien Invasion

Caught this last month just before the demersal ban started, been meaning to post since. Thought I'd snagged a large clump of weed as I was winding up.
First cuttlefish I've ever caught but apparently its a biggun. Such a freaky looking beast.
Whole lotta a-grade bait right there.

I am, as I've said, merely competent. But in an age of incompetence, that makes me extraordinary.

Dunno about good bait!
Fished out of Jurien with a mate who brought along fresh cuttlie for bait - fished alongside each other ALL day and he did not get a single touch where I cleaned up using fresh occy - yet I know that cuttlie is a staple food of snapper - perhaps it was just one of those days and yes that is a stocker, one of the largest I have seen over here !

Yeh it didn't magically make fish appear
Didn't catch anything worth a mention the rest of the day but I'd probably blame that more on the broken sounder than the bait.

That is a biggun for sure, not bad bait better eating.Last one we caught we pickled it in a jar of vinegar and mixed herbs ,garlic etc.Great snack food for the next trip out.
They have plenty of ink,we semi freeze them so the ink goes hard then clean less mess, works with squid as well.

Man that thing is a monster.
Would love to catch it and eat it, but hate gutting those dirty pricks.
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

Yep
Felt a bit bad putting a blade through it. Seemed to have more intelligence in its eyes than the blank stare you get from fish.
Absolute mess to clean but pretty sure theres still bags of bits in my brothers freezer, ready for next trip out. Next time il try the partially freeze then clean suggested above by Willo.

Nice one

Tentacles make great bait and the hood is sensational eating, different flavour to Squid but very tasty

I shot one on a trip to the abrolhos with WAUC. They had a deep fryer there, and we doing nuggets of trout, baldy and all sorts. I cut the cuttlefish up to strips and popped it into the mix. Now it took the guys a little while to start eating it, but once they starts, they cleaned it right out before going back to the trout and baldy.
