Yes American boats are great to buy with the Aussie dollar so high. My mate got a boat for 35k a 8.5m Bayliner last year off a guy that got it from America for 70k

I'd be looking at second hand American boats, because they'll be cheaper and already in Australia

Cheers Ben

A lot of info in search, try it!

30-40% less, its not enough! Basically buy price, then add 80% for freight, taxes, cleaning and other surprises and thats about what they cost once you get them here.

Use this guy  http://www.portseamarine.com.au/import-a-boat.php ..........a mate just got his 29 foot proline here saved quite a few $$$$$$$ going down this road, I think he will keep this only for a while and then get another prolone but a bit bigger again, Also get the alloy trailers they have over there, hell of alot cheaper and all to Australia specs

"all to Australia specs"

Be mindful that not every 'Australian Spec' trailer that they sell you, will actually be to Australian spec, except perhaps for the axle width, which they should get right.

I'm not saying this happens in all circumstances, but tow hitches, mud flaps, split coloured side lights, stainless brake line mounts, and a host of other things that are not 'standard' in the US, can prove to be traps for new players over here. Sometimes they will get past the pits, but an overzealous pit inspector can cause you a world of pain (financial and time) if they want to get picky on a US trailer.

When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:

n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or

n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

can get some good bargins out

Tue, 2011-09-13 12:48

can get some good bargins out of the states at the moment, did hear a stat the other day saying 10,000 boats from the US to AU per month!

Apparently the boat market in the US is strengthening based on the volume being sold to Australians. Seaswirls are one of the brands.

One thing I've noticed is most boats seem under powered. 26ft glass boats with twin 115's.... no thanks!

Trailers are pretty cheap over there, can pick up decent trailers which are configured to AU spec for well under 5k
