Hi there, just wondering if any one has had a problem with Yamaha speedo gauge. Mine is fairly new and isnt giving the correct speed, it is slower because my plotter is accurate, there for i cant get an accurate trip distance. Has anyone had a similar problem with any type of newish outboard and is it easyly fixed or more of a problem.
Cheers

Is it possible its in a bit of an eddy or similar that would cause it to read 'less water'?

Not sure if this isn't a
Not sure if this isn't a trick question, but why don't you take the trip distance off the GPS?
Ok sure it would be counting drifts, but they're usually a very small % of the overall trip.

SOG
Could it be that you were travelling with the current - you would be going faster over the ground than through the water, which may explain the difference.

if it's a digital read out
if it's a digital read out then mine is the same and is always a few knots slower than the soudner at SOG is saying, trim gauge doesn't work and neither does the fuel but the distance travelled and fuel used is spot on so i can't complain.

Yeah, at the lower speeds
Yeah, at the lower speeds (less than 10knots) the GPS is more accurate but after that they both read the same.

Thanks for the feedback guys,
Thanks for the feedback guys, it has been happening for a 100hrs or so. I spoke to the dealer and he said that there is a little tube that takes in water pressure down near the bottom of motor that maybe damaged or a cable tye on to tight under the gunnels, the moter is a 2010 model. Apparently there is a paddle wheel type and a tube type that works thru water pressure. Thanks for your advice you guys and happy fishen.

The speedo on the outboard
The speedo on the outboard will give you speed through the water STW, the GPS reads speed over ground SOG this is your true speed.
