Anchor Retrieval

Hi

Putting together a reef anchor retrieval and wanted to use a cheaper clip than the commercial units. Can anyone comment as to whether the unit shown will be strong enough to meet the rigors of being jerked of the bottom

Thanks for any input

Eric

It's a setup for easy anchor

It's a setup for easy anchor retrieval expecially if you're fishing solo.

Untie your anchor, put your anchor rope through the metal loop attached to the float and tie your anchor back on.

Most people at this point put the anchor & rope up front with them while travelling.
When you reach your spot put the anchor over the side while holding the rope and set the anchor.

When you want to go, get your longish gaff and hook onto the metal clip and pull it towards you so you can reach the anchor rope without going to the bow.

There's a few variations (ie driving closer to the clip and then gaffing it when you have a shorter gaff)

While you could use it with a gaff if you want, I believe the point is to throw the buoy in the water then drive the boat so the buoy slides down the line lifting the anchor to the surface using your boats power ;)

Trick to it

The trick is to have the chain weighing more than the anchor, that way the anchor stays suspended under the float and you drive back up coiling the rope in as you go without any heavy lifting.

If you are prepared to shutup, lookup, and take notice people on this site are quite prepared to pass on little tricks that can help you with boats and fishing.
Thanks for the tip canarvonite

The Set up works for me

I use the same thing works well but I seem to blow it every third or fourth time. I also put the float on when I drop the anchor saves time when you wish to pull it up, also I do not take it off between spots.

Saves your back when fishing alone, but still not better than a deckie with a strong back.

Cheers
