Ok, so which is better... Ive got an android and am considering going iphone very soon. Just seeing if anyone has had both and what they prefer. Also what are the best apps youve found / free/ bought?

Android
From my experience Android is now streets ahead of iphone & they have a lot of free apps. I guess it depends on your need to be with the in crowd or want a fone that works properly & wont fail in battery life, navigation or reception. tough choice

+1 for Android
I had iPhone, the Silver one, (2G?!), 3G, 3GS, then .... Samsung Galaxy S3 ... which was way better for me than the boring iPhones ... until wifey pinched it from me, and left me with her iPhone 5 present (which I'm stuck with right now )
Honestly, it's mainly depending on your use, and personality ... but I'd go Android all the way, especially when you mix it with the great Samsung Tech background.

iPhone
I couldn't live without my iPhone. It's probably not as good as the android phones but hell it does everything I want it to do, perfectly.
I use the Siri feature quite alot as it can create meetings for me on the go and seems to get it right everytime.
The main thing is once you go down the apple path, it is very hard to leave. I have found they have great service at apple too - I had a bluetooth issue with my last phone, iPhone 4 about 8 months old, and when I took it in to them they just said "mate, that's no good, here have a brand new one."
I also lost my phone a few months back and got another one for free (part of my contract) but the best bit is that you just plug the new phone in and everything is the same as you had it before.
Really, I just want the bloody thing to be easy to use and not have 10 steps / 5 menus to do everything.

Maps Maps Maps
i love my iPhone4, cant stand using my Mrs' Galaxy SII. She even steals my phone to surf the web! Just little things like the font/print seems to be a lot clearer on the Apple, the touch screen feedback feels better too IMO.
I absolutely love the Maps app. I'm even reluctant to ugrade to the 5 because i heard the maps app isnt Google.
My battery lasts a lot longer than the Mrs' Galaxy too. She has to charge her phone every night, my iPhone usually lasts a day and a half and i use my phone to surf A LOT.
Her and a few friends with the Galaxy SII also seem to have had software issues.
iPhone issues are next to none, plus if there ever is, i can just take it to the Apple Store and they'll sort it out.
Another positive is that most new car audio have iPod connectivity, which means i can charge my phone and listen to music at the same time.
But to answer your app question, the best app for me is Maps.

... one more thing to add
No offence to Galaxy S2 Users ... but there is no comparison to the S3 .... S3 is a Quad Core Processor, and Android 4 Operating System.
To me, if you're comparing Apple, to Android, do it to the Samsung Galaxy S3 (not previous ones).

Apps
Re iPhone apps, my favorites are:
Newsstand - I like reading the NY Times and Finance papers.
Remote - lets me control my apple TV from my phone
Navionics - just like a plotter but in your pocket
Amplitube - use it with my iRig for recording / effects for guitar and vocal tracks on the iPad.

Consensus
I agree with the consensus - I've an HTC (my 3rd) and wouldn't change it for anything other than another android powered devices.

Good fishing app for androids
Good fishing app for androids is Fishing Times Free, pretty much a digital almanac, with feed times, tides times and sunrise/sunset times, the only useful fishing app I have found

iPhone passport
I fly a lot for work and haven't printed a ticket in ages. You just email your boarding pass to your phone and then scan it at the kiosk. You just double tap the barcode.

Galaxy
I have a Samsung galaxy SII & i have no probs with it. Battery life is good, apps are great & easy to use. As of yet it has cost me nothing for the upgrades that are done automatically. My opinion it's worth concidering.

Android
Android all the way for me,heaps easier to use. Another good app is "hooked on fishing mate". Has an almanac, weather and tide advice. Also has a catch log that lets you take a photo of your catch and records details of when and where it was caught. Also allows you to enter details of what bait you were using at the time. Cost is about $5 available for andriod and i-phone.
