Anothe day another fishing adventure
Submitted by Chris fish on Sun, 2013-03-10 22:50
Went to a beach to chase some big salmon and tailor and couldn't land a single one so after loosing some lures to big fish we set up the shark rods and slide baited some big baits into a gutter. Took less than 20 mins for the first run with a nice nurse on the sand 30 mins later, out go some more bait and about 30 mind later off goes one rod then another and we had a double hookup of monster sharks. First shark we got to the shore break before breaking the leader. My little brother was having a much harder time with his and eventually landing a monster nurse himself!!

How do you get the time to fish so much?!
When asked by a non-fisherman 'how many fishing rods do you really need?' the correct answer is either:
n+1 (where n is the number of fishing rods you currently own); or
n-1 (where n is the number of fishing rods which would cause your significant other to dump you.

We where at this spot for 4 hours all up with a few mates on a Sunday arvo I just fish as often as I can but we always seem to do good in the time we do spend. These guys where caught on 24kg and torium30 and fin or offshore 30 and with catana and sensor surf rods so not expensive combos. Deffinalty a good work out and all of us get involved landing and releasing these monsters.

Your killing me
with those monsters. I think my days off chasing big fish is gone (back issues) but I am still jealous. Now chasing that elusive 10kg sand whiting.

Brilliant photos lads, can I
Brilliant photos lads, can I ask where you are catching these sharks - not after exact location just general area, what baits are you using
I would love to have a go at catching one myself before I return back to the UK in 6 months (need to get a photo for my local brag board back at home )
I have been trying around Mandurah area the last couple of weeks with no luck, apart from losing a couple of rays -

All these big sharks come
All these big sharks come from around Albany at various beaches. We where slidebaiting at this spot into a deep shore gutter with whole bonito and small tuna but almost anything works as baits. We either balloon, kayak or slidebait depending on location.
I didn't even cast out my rod this night I just set the others and got them onto these monsters. I'm not fussed who catches them anymore as its a group effort to beach and release them and just seeing the is reward enough for the effort.

You cast the weight out first
You cast the weight out first by itself and wait for it to grip the bottom. Then slide a big bait out along your line until it gets out to where you casted the weight. You can buy special non-return slides to do this. You can cast the 8 oz sinker by itself much futher than you could cast a whole bonito.

Yep exactly that set up,
Yep exactly that set up, very usefull thread that one. We have been casting 10-12oz grapnels and getting 2-3kg baits out for these big guys. Only need 40-50m casts to get into the gutters that we slide into.
