Boat engine catches fire

Two people on a 38-foot cruiser struck trouble this afternoon when the boat's engine caught fire.
Sgt Graham Clifford said the vessel left Mandurah shortly after midday. The boat started losing power when it was between Garden Island and Rottnest Island.
The people on board noticed smoke coming from the engine at about 4pm and made a mayday call.
Water Police responded but the two people managed to put the fire out themselves.
No injuries were reported.

Your engine catch fire if you use it how the manul says to?

burst fuel line blown gasket a short in the wiring there are many things that can go wrong just because you read a manual dosent mean nothings going to go wrong

manual??
a manual for a boat??? never heard of such a thing besides a warranty book for your motor, it takes common sense, if u dont know how to use it leave it alone. bad things can happen to even the most experienced fishermen.

Had a club member that is very
carefull with his boat, everything done professionally. Got a new fuel tank built. Launched at the Club, started the engine (inboard) next minute a explosion. Thank god nobody was injuried and luckily the Bosun was within easy reach of a fire extinquisher. They later found out that the new fuel tank had a minute leak (as they'd just fueled up at the blue shed). Even though he did everything by professional people, he still had a mishap. Last I spoke to him, he's seriously thinking of talking to a lawyer re: the so called brand new fuel tank.

I once pulled a tank out of a boat, had it flushed and pressure tested professionally, all seemed OK, but put it back in, glassed it in, filled it up and proceeded to pour 100L of petrol on the road on the way home!!!! Got it back out and it seemed a little spot with some rust (internal?) had given way in the process of refitting.
Probably would not have caused an explosion, but who knows with the pool of petrol in the engine bay. Is an example where the best laid plans and a no expenses spared approach still doesn't work out. I wanted a new tank made but I was talked out of it...........
