possession limits are 24 per person
does that mean 24 per licensed person (which would mean only licensed people could be in possesion of crays caught recreationally) or 24 per person in a household
or if i give some to a friend 24 per both households or i could catch 8 a day and give batches of 24 to friends now if i have these friends or family living with me does that mean each person can own 24 crays?
this is the only reg i could find
Subject to regulation 16E(3A)(a)(iv) and (b)(iv), (3B)(a)(iv) and (b)(iv) and (3C)(a)(iv) and (b)(iv), for the purposes of section 51(1) of the Act, the maximum quantity of rock lobster that a person may be in possession of is 24 rock lobsters.

you do not need a licence to
you do not need a licence to possess seafood at home, only to catch and land it.
Otherwise you'd be committing an offence by giving any to your mum/mate/neighbour etc

Regulation 16E actually
Regulation 16E actually applies to boats and has nothing to do with households (unless af course you live on a boat with all your family and friends).

Per person
They way I understand it it's 24 per person regardless of licence. So if that's an issue might be time to have more kids haha

you need a licence to take
you need a licence to take crays , & only 8 per day per licence holder , so long as you comply with all the regs,in the taking of those crays your fine to have/hold up to 24 per person in your main place of residence,
how many you give to your wife, kids /family mates is no ones business so long as you take them legally , the recievers of your cray gift dont need a licence to posses them anywhere on the planet
so if you have 3 people at home all living together in the one house as their permanent place of residence you can have/hold 72 crays
personally i never would do that , but technically you could

It goes to show how crap the
It goes to show how crap the regs are when an answer can't easily be found
i have a lawyer friend who said that they do this on purpose
i have asked several friends and have had as many say it's 24 only in the house
as others say it's 24 per person in a house
myawyer friend said she thinks it means only 24 in the house but that is based only on our explanation of what the reg say
lets face it even the departments own publication say they
can't be used as a defence

I agree that they make it
I agree that they make it vague on purpose, but in this case its pretty clear.
24 per person stored in the house they normally reside in, plainly and clearly written.
Im not reading the regs but from memory if there is more than one persons limit it must be labelled whose they are, I believe this may just be while transporting though.

Possession of 24 - when has
Possession of 24 - when has 'possession' deemed to have occured?
eg:
a) can I be in possesion of 24 crays on the street?
b) at the ramp?
c) what about going to a mates house am I allowed to have 24 in my car?

After they have been
After they have been "landed", so top of the ramp.
Yes yes and yes. But if thrre is more than one persons possession limit they must be labelled.

well i can shed more light on this.
was in a friends boat when we where checked by a lovely fisheries officer.
as she was getting back onto the rib i asked her what the limit was.
she said its 24 per person living in the house ie;
2 adults 2 kids equals 96 crays allowed in possesion
cheers
