Another dinghy adrift
Submitted by carnarvonite on Wed, 2018-10-03 07:34
Heard a radio call from Steep Point ranger this morning that a 4.2 metre dinghy is adrift somewhere around there joining another that went missing complete with fishing gear from the bay in front of Dirk Hartog homestead.
Don't people know how to tie a boat up or is it the gear they are using isn't up to what is needed

No, they dont.
I picked one up amongst the reef up at Winderabandi a couple of years back, just trailing the painter, came untied from North Lefroy. Had another go adrift from next to us, he'd tied it up with a bit of ski rope, tide came up, surge was jerking it around, snapped off. Never found that one. And there have been others, variations on a theme. Which is why I persist with having a pick tied to the stern as well as a good mooring, as a backup. Mooring takes the weight, but, if somehow something let's go, it can't go too far before before it hooks up.

Found one
The one from today has been found up at Cape Ransonet and is being towed back but the other is nowhere to be seen. Probably will come ashore north of Carnarvon on Miabooliya beach or around Red Bluff on Bernier island

Where is Red Bluff on Bernier
Where is Red Bluff on Bernier island? I'm out at the islands tomorrow and can have a look but have never heard of Red Bluff.

Red Bluff
Its about 1/3 of the way up the eastern side. Popular anchorage for yachts and small boats over nighting. Not as good as Hospital Bay which is good for anything from the south but open to the north. You head to the southern end of the most NE beach on Bernier and anchor right in close to the beach
