another new boat to comment on
Submitted by oz74 on Sun, 2012-11-04 20:16
hi all,
tried attaching a picture into another similar thread but couldn't get it to stick.
looking for any comments on the boat below that I have a contract coming for tomorrow - checking it out in Qld in two weeks.
Anyone had any experience, good or bad with Sterncraft boats?
Made in Tasmania so I would think that they would/ should be built to last??
cheers

Sterncraft???
If you haven't received any comments from 3 other enquiries on sterncraft by now I doubt you'll get one now.
Being a Tassie boat and not a common brand name over here its a bit hard to comment

Seems to be a whole lotta boat , 7.8m , 5mm plate 2 x 140 suzis ...found the link for it seems to be a great price , sweet buggar all comes up in searches regarding the sterncraft boat or the manufacturers...hence why your asking here I suppose ...whats the contract for

That's the one Chris
Yeah you found it Chris.
And yes, thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone has heard of them. Even though their Tasmanian built, doesn't mean that there wont be any people on the forum that know anything about them?
From what I can see, they are built moreso for industry in Tassie. This one was built to survey also.
it's right on the trailerable width of about 8ft 2in or about 2.5 metres. And yes, walk through between the engines.
yeah, price seems very good but am also factoring in two new outboards. But saying that, I have the service read outs from the current engines and they are perfect.
contract is just the offer and acceptance.
cheers

Looks OK for calm conditions
Looks OK for calm conditions but i would look at the cabin being to far forward on the boat could catapult you through the roof in a choppy sea.

looks good to me
i just searched for them on the net and they have been around for a while now, i would say that with plenty being built for the commercial industry they should be fine, well priced too!. good luck

yes the cabin is toward the front but I guess its a compromise you have to make when you want some good deck space.
the hull also seems to flatten out a fair bit from the bow, which may add to the bang factor but will have to wait and see and like every boat - just drive it to the conditions. good bow 'V' though so at the right speed and with the wseight behind it - should cut through any chop. otherwise it will just turn a two beer return trip into three!

Foward cab on a boat that
Foward cab on a boat that length shouldnt add too much to the bang factor, might wear a bit of spray over the windsrceen as the length will make the rear more 'bouyant' in that it wont dig in to lift the bow. Twin motors will help though. Smallish reverse chimes at the rear shoud help too. 800 hours is nothing at all. Ive got an '08 250 Yammy with 1100hrs on it and it runs and looks like new.
have fun

I really like it.
Plenty of deck space ,plenty of shelter ,great cabin with no bloody clears, and excellent motors
The only pain is not being able to do adjustments to drift whilst fishing.
Get it checked out properly
If I spent half as long fishing , as I do reading this bloody forum , I'd be twice the fisherman I am.

Yeah solid tub. I like it
Yeah solid tub. I like it too. Looks like it was built for the rough stuff. Being Tassie they would get some shite weather down there.
