Abalone Season
Submitted by MarkTheShark on Sun, 2012-11-04 13:57
I went out today on the northern reefs of perth to try get myself a feed of abalone, but with the wind and swell it made it extremely hard to get. After alot of getting knocked around on the reef with 10cm visibility I mannaged to pull in a dozen. I was just wondering how others did, usually i bag out... and are there any spots for abs maybe SOR that get less effected by the swell.

I fish for recreation and fun.
At a point when the weather degrades and it's no longer fun..... I stop.
Todays weather was way beyond that point. It was dangerous. Unfortunately it looks like someone payed the ultimate price finding that out.

Yep i do the same. But only tenderize it gently, you hear some people say to smash the crap out of them!!!!!!
Also only shallow fry for 40 secs one side then 30 secs the other side.
Only really bother with Borwn and Green Lip ones now though, only need one big one to feed four people, which means only one Ab to clean :)

The most common issue with
The most common issue with Abalone is overcooking ..as others have said before 30 seconds each side is enough...I like to tenderise them also but that isnt the main thing..cut them very thinly. egg and bread crumbs, cook them hot and quick ...finest food in the sea only surpassed by pearl meat in my opinion.... Im busting for a feed !

I am amazed so many people
I am amazed so many people who were poor swimmers went out without wetsuits in yesterday conditions.....
lucky the lifeguards were so efficient....
i am a good swimmer, and i've done snorkelling every year, and diving in the past, and i certainly wouldn't have gone out today if i wasnt a good swimmer. Saw fisheries catch some people on sunday, one guy got back to the beach and started throwing back the small ones, fisheries swooped and nabbed him. Mind you, i think most people (me included) didnt catch the limit of 20, 'im glad i didnt get any bruises from the reef though....it was bloody tiring though, all the waves over the reef made it hard....
