small ali weld- patch job on a crack in hull (1.5cm long)
Submitted by hekser on Mon, 2012-07-16 17:47
Howdy guys, wondering if anyone out there has a TIG and proficient in ali welding? just bought a 16ft dinghy with a small crack in the hull that needs to be patched, 1.5cm -2cm long maybe 2mm wide.
anyone interested in a cashie or can steer me in the direction of a mob who can do it for a reasonable price? cheers. i can clean it up and do all prep work - currently has silicone on it which holds but before i take it anywhere that isnt the river id like it fixed properly- toyed with the idea of bogging it up but maybe as well get it done properly... cheers

Where abouts on the hull is
Where abouts on the hull is it Hekser? I can weld ali but I have a mig set up with push-pull handpiece not tig. You might not get it with TIG if it's underneath or can you rotate it?

mid hull. probably 70cm from the keel
i only put a deposit on it, will pick it up this weekend- will find a pic of a dingy and mark out the spot where it is so people can offer advice (i have little welding experience and know ali welding can be a bitch) its an older hull so not sure again if it will weld up- looking over it it has a few spot welds already that appear to be pretty good.. may have a chance- gimme 5 and ill get an image and post it. cheers

this pic is not the hull
its roughly there inside the depression running across east to west not up and down.. fixable? its had silicone on it, the guy says its held but he doesnt go out much.. id just prefer to get it fixed right and be safe. its and older model hull maybe 80's...
cheers

I can probably weld that no
I can probably weld that no worries. Looking at that don't think it will need a patch just weld on both sides.
