Dont Worry Tomo

Thu, 2020-10-15 20:49

Dont worry Tomo my Motorola will Still be on 77, and we will still be chating on there as Normal, as ive pointed out to the Mandurah Ops they cant tell you to move off 77

Nothing shows up on the ACMA website so i guess its just another Fesa Fuck up putting people at Risk of not being hered on the Boat -Boat Frequency , There are other Channels they Could use

As a sea rescue radio operator

Thu, 2020-10-15 07:17

Bluntly in busy times channel 73 gets so much over talking it becomes very difficult to take log ons/offs BUT and it is a huge BUT having different log on channels is both confusing to fishos and poses issues in monitoring .....we often take calls both for Rocko and Freo early in the morning before they are manned and unless we programme the Icoms to scan these moves will make hearing those calls impossible and as an overnight operator we will have to add additional channels to Wave.

Be that as it may might I encourage everyone to log on, its takes seconds but ensures safety ......we don't want any tragedies this coming season

Phone App

Thu, 2020-10-15 14:02

When will we have a phone app like NSW does? It would eliminate 90% of traffic and 99% of log off errors i would imagine!

My only concern with that is what if you can't get a signal.

Supposed to be trialled by Freo shortly

Thu, 2020-10-15 14:28

I had a lengthy chat with Tweed Heads sea rescue last year and whilst they liked it coverage further offshore did not compare to VHF coverage. As usual nothing is perfect.

100% agree...But those fair

100% agree...

But those far offshore should fall into the +/- 10%. It should be in addition to VHF, not in place of!

 Been years since I've logged

Thu, 2020-10-15 16:42

Been years since I've logged in. I'd use an app though.
Currently I leave reasonably detailed location and itinery with mates.

I would use an app for sure.

I would use an app for sure. Not soo much ocean yakking anymore, but before kids when i was out every weekend an app would've been easy and safe for me to use. Now with the ski much the same. I've gotta get into the habit of logging on/off rather than having the local rescue at top of contacts list in my phone

Jumped in too quick

It was suggested they have a 3 month trial listening with summmer round the corner to see how much traffic was on 77 before choosing it. Now there is a probelm with another stakeholder so last I heard changing to 77 was on hold.  It was pointed out that it is boat to boat chanel but ignored that advice.

DFES are looking into an app but not rushing it. NSW one has problems if you move/relocate during the day.

I think the app would really

Fri, 2020-10-16 17:35

I think the app would really come into its own in the areas that radioes aren't monitored. Anywhere outside metro really.

Tue, 2020-10-20 07:09

Marine Rescue Whitfords will be chnaging to channel 77 from 24th October. They will still monitor 73 and advise those that log on to use 77 in future. You will also see our members at the Hillarys, Ocean Reef and Mindarie marinas handing out information.

They will still monitor 81 for Rotto and 16 for emergencies.

Positive news. I've had some

Tue, 2020-10-20 09:33

Positive news. I've had some days at peak times sitting at the marina mouth for a good 15 mins trying to get in and log on. An app that also sends the info to sea rescue, the Mrs and my Dad with live tracking would be brilliant
