Pulled our pots this morning got zero result no cackers nothing, divers are doing ok, was talking to a bloke at the ramp he had his bag limit recons they wont go into pots for another couple of weeks.
we put our pots out sat morning and pulled them today - nothing!! we placed them at another spot so will pull them on tuesday and see how we go.
yeah we've heard the same from divers at the ramp - one guy we spoke to had his limit though he said with the full moon etc they won't be walking around much at night...
we've got our pots in 5-7m of water - has anyone seen them at these depths or should we go out deeper?
We also got one of them stuck though luckily after tying it off and giving it abit it pulled free...
was talkin to some pros in the harbour yesterday bout there first pull... one boat did 130 pots for 2 size crays! poor skipper was in tears... talk about paying the bills huh... heard mixed reports for diving and pots outta gero but nothing spectacular
Heaps of whites around and very soft , got our bag no worries but doubt they will be waking at all for a while, taste good those first of the season whites....
Good reports fella's thought I'd placed my pots in wrong area but reading your updates I now know we got some waiting to do before setting pots I'll give em 2 weeks.
went for a dive on saturday morning - forgot a bloody guage!! so only got one, the biggest one i saw. Turns out he was well and truly size and so all his buddies would have been too...this was in max depth of 7m - wicked reef, beautiful colours and heaps of caves etc. Good fun!!
There werent as many boats out as I thought there would have been, and no fisheries inspectors sighted...
Put my pots out yesterday out form point peron...(first time Ive down from out there so not sure where to put them yet)
See hwo we go i guess. Went for a snorkle over some 3-5m reefs. Saw some feelers when i wetn down looking under 4-5 m ledges... but could not reach them.
Lots of clacking under water so there must be a few about. But by the sounds of it, might be a bit early for the pots..
See what happens, chucked my pots in this morning. Its good at the moment to find good ground in close as of the low tides. Will pull tomrw morning then head for a fish!

Pots dont seem to work straight away, I always started getting crays after about 3 weeks into the season. Has something to do with the moon phases I think. Divers are doing very well down this way though.
Nothing in the pots this morning! Talked to fisheries guys at boat ramp and he said he hasnt come across anyone that has caught crays in pots yet! He was also checking nav lights even tho is wasnt pitch dark!
IF YOU EVER NEED A LIMOUSINE...CALL LAKES LIMOUSINES BALLAJURA
gonna pull mine tonight for the first time... lets just say im not very optimistic of getting any
Would like to know if anyone is getting any around Carnac / Stragglers.
Went out to rotto late yerterday with a work mate to drop his pots in.. bloody rough late in the arvo...
Had a few engine problems so only came back on one engine (2 x 200's on the back)
Good looking ground around rotto tho! He should get some crays for sure.
They seem to be in 7 - 12 meters. Trust me! dived twice in 20m off hillarys which produced well last year not one cray. Dived 7 -12m on three mile worked hard but most were red locals still had barnicals on them, two whites soft. Have had good reports that divers got quotta easily north of mindarie. This time last year pots were out doing divers, some think they have walked already and the whites that are left missed out and will walk on the end of the moon cycle. I just hope every one gets some crayfish for christmas and hope it is not a bad start to a season for all.
Dont know about that wogboy , from what I have seen and bagged since saturday they haven't walked yet . Half have been whites of god size and lots of corals and even a few reds with hairs already . Have seen quite a few ledges where they have been jam packed with crays up to three deep with the jumbo's sitting at the back pushing out the smaller crays to the front . Dived a cave recently where i stuck my head in to have a look and all I could see where crays a rough guess would be around 40 . Personally i wouldnt be putting out pots untill another two weeks time
Hey feral, when the crays start walking, do they head straight for deaper water? Or do they walk up and down reefs for a while then slowly head out to deaper water?? Cheers

Just spoke to my uncle my uncle in Jurien he is a pro up there. The pots are out soaking but they cant pull them until monday. B zone start on the 15th and they are struggling. He said it is going to be a slow start to this season.
checked mine - zip. But I suspect I was in 2nd place as they weren't where I left them - close, but they were in the sand and not against the reef. Grrrrrr
So I have pulled them out and will put em back in in about 2 weeks time. too busy next week and off-shore the following week.
HuggB checked mine about 10 am this morning (after i went out with my mate to get his) and i dont think ours were in the same spot either.... but they had been in 4 days.
Going out early tomorrow morning....
Lots and lots of divers from point peron at the moment.
Just get a balloon filled with red enamel paint and tie it on your rope about ten metres down then watch for the boat with the paint on it as it goes through the pot puller , justice
I find putting a couple of treble hooks in my cray ropes, stops them from getting pulled to often! Just look for the guy swearing at the boat ramp with a rag around his hand !

Well done Bodie, good to hear. Many of my clients have only just now been getting a few in pots. Certainly the first 2 weeks are hard with the moon and soft molt. The whites havnt bolted yet like last season but the beach is a no go with the commercial guys that i know. Most are in 8-15m (ledges) and have a few tester post on the outside contour lines to see if they can get the early walk!
Rotto has plenty of good reds but in berry so no take, depths 10-15m & on reef ledges with sand being the go.....the big hard reef structure being quieter!
