Anyone with a DJI Drone- i need help

Looking for someone with knowledge of drones who can help me.
I have a DJI Phantom 3 standard and can't get the remote to pair with drone or do firmware update .
Not sure if the drone or remote has the issue so if someone has the same unit I would like to try pairing my remote to there drone or other way round to try eliminating the suspect part . Remote control is new but drone bought second hand without remote so don't know history.

Try powering down both units
And I do not mean turning them off, turn them off, remove the batteries, leave at least an hour to ensure any capacitance charge is removed before restarting.....this might fix the linking issue

Can only remove
Can only remove battery in drone not remote , but will give it a go . At this stage willing to try anything before I hit it with a big hammer

Batteries charged?
I had this problem until I realised the batteries in the remote were close to flat.
Other than that I’d check with the DJI support people that there isn’t an issue with using a remote and drone that were purchased separately.
