Anything may Help.!!

Hi all, this is a long shot.

But I said I may as well throw in a post on here and see if any of you fellow Fishos will be able to help a fellow fisho out, or may know anyone or anything that may help me and my fiancee.

The situation is my Fiancee and I both have to work 88 days in a regional area in Australia. We have been working in Perth in the one Job now going on 6 months, which is the limit to what we can work in any one job with the visa we have. (Working Holiday)

We have a dilemma now, that means we either find work on a farm/road-house/caravan park (agricultural/hospitality or fishing jobs) within a hour or so drive of Joondalup (where we are living at present), or in any of these Postcodes: 6041 to 6044, 6083 to 6084, 6121 to 6126, 6200 to 6799, This is to enable us to have a second year visa extension, to stay in this beautiful country.

Or else we will have to pack our bags and fly to another city or state leaving all that we have built here in the last 6 months behind us. (not something we want to do, if can be helped)

I have tried searching Gumtree, seek, and the local papers, with not much luck.

So I am calling for someones help on here, I know it is a long shot, but I can assure you, we wont let you down, We are both Hardworking, Honest, and motivated people. Coming from a country-side background from Ireland, working the land is not something we are afraid of. In fact we are looking forward to experiencing some different situations and cant wait to get our hands dirty.

If you can help, or know anybody that might be able to point us in the right direction, I will be more than happy to try any avenue to stay within WA.

Please, Please do not hesitate to send me a Pm with any help or advise.

Thanks so much for reading this, and hope you can help or provide some feedback on where to start.

Regards

Wayne.

Have you tried any Garden Nursery Plant farms? I worked at one when I left school for 2 years we had coupes like you come and go all the time. My Dad still works at one now but I can't ask him if they are looking for people as he is on a Bali holiday.

Hows it going beau,

Yea I tried one or two of them, but the places I got through to where saying its not the right season or something (??), and they wont be starting the work until september, which is too late for us to start the work. As we need to get three months in before November. :(

But if you might know of any places, if you want to pm them on, I can research them and get the numbers and call ahead myself. Anything is a help.

Cheers

Yeh that would make sense as most of the plants start to bloom at the start of spring. When I worked at the Airport we used to get boxes of seedlings from over east going to plant farms around Perth the only ones I can think of off the top of my head is Benara nursery, Domus, and Hope Valley.

Il look into them now, and ring them over the weekend or when I get a break in work (12 hours shifts at the moment, dont help much).

Really do Appricate the info and advise. (if anything else you know comes to mind in the next couple of weeks, just pop a reply and I will gladly look into it.)

Hopefully I have more luck trying to get a job, than the fishing lately..lol :)

Thanks again.

Hows it going mate, thanks for the heads up on that. I have heard of Margaret River,

Iv tried to look into the area down there and have heard of all the vyards etc.. But when we were speaking to different hiring companies in the CBD we were told there was not much coming up Job wise, Unless the vineyards had already hired the quota needed to do the work, or else the companies I was going through in Perth, wont name names, where just talking sh#@t.

Would you know any particular vyards looking for 2 people say in the next 3 weeks, I can get myself and the misses down there in that time, (hand in our notices with current employeer) and we can work down there on the vines until our limbs fall off..lol

I am open to any suggestion. If you want, send me a PM, I can give you my details and whatever you need.

I don't know

of any specific jobs going atm. Not personally involved in hiring/firing.

Try VINEPOWER, Labour Solutions or Down to Earth. All based in Margaret River

I can personally vouch for this guy. He may be Irish but we should not hold that against him LOL. I have met both he and his lovely missus. Personally I feel it's disgracefull that such a smart guy should have to go through all of this when the "other people" buy a seat on a boat to get here.

Tarvelling time of the year from Darwin southwards, alot of backpackers travelling and working this time of the year possible melon picking Kunnunurra. Met a group of international workers staying at Hidden valley caravan park who were cutting some sort of tree that is used for perfume scent. I now that's a long way from Perth but you'll get to see the country and fish in some awesome areas.

Its good you submitted your story on here mate , A lot of Aussies have no idea how difficult it can be to live and work here for guys like you. Its fine coming here and being willing to have a go, but then try to get a place to live !!!  and then only get work that Aussies dont want to do, many quals arent recognised here. The Irish are generally well liked ( as long as you have a safe place to store your grog ) for others with coloured skin it can be very diffcult. Not wanting to open a cans of worms here. I just know how difficlt it is for people that come here and try to make a life here.... We are just lucky we were born here hey !!

A few people I know or have

Tue, 2012-07-17 20:14

A few people I know or have heard of, have travelled many many miles to get to these areas, where they were promised beds, food and wage, and when arrived, were basically thrown in a barn with a sheet and bed riddled with god knows what, full of rats and red backs and wages were non-existant. Obviously they didnt stay too long with that set up, but was wasted money on fuel, time and energy, all lead on false hopes and bull shit.

I dont want to be one of them, hence trying to find a decent place via a decent person on a site like this. All fisho's can look out for each other, and at the end of the day. At least I tried.. lol

And with good information from folk on here, like yourself, I wont be another horror story. ( I hope) LOL

If you want something of the beaten track Gnarloo station use a lot of backpackers up there.  The owner i think is irish or scottish anyway from that part of the country.  You get accomadation and you would both probably get work there.  Its just north of Canarvon and the blowholes...

How you goin mate. There is a few places near gin gin that employ travellers and visa workers. I think in the fruit picking areas. There are fruit trees and vegie gardens that way that need all year work. Check jobs in the gin gin and surrounding areas.

Good Luck with it all.

Thanks sandbar, I'll look

Wed, 2012-07-18 09:20

Thanks sandbar, I'll look into that area now.  But there doesnt seem to be much on any sites relating to jobs in that area. Or on any farm work in WA for that matter. Its a pain. I am willing to search and troll throw any option possible.

The only way I think that we will get a stint of work on a farm or the likes, will be by recommendation by someone who either knows the owner/business.

It's like anything in the world, its not what you know, it is who you know.

Alot of the smaller farms looks like they wont put job's up on the sites as they would get bombarded so its very difficult for to find one before its filled by other means.

Google has thrown up a few different places in GinGin, but seen as they are small farms/business's they dont have a website, or any job site does not display any openings.

Do you know any names of farms up that way that might help slim down the seraching and I can contact them to see. (Westcoast honey is one ive just looked into)

Gin Gin, have a drive up

Wed, 2012-07-18 10:05

Gin Gin, have a drive up there it'll only take an hour and ten from joondalup.

Look in the local shop windows they usually have jobs advertised.

Nice cafe over in the park for a feed too, then back via Guilderton for an afternoon fish.

Perfect day if you get a few fish and some job info.

Good luck!

Gingin

Try Westralia fruits,Loose Leaf Lettuce company and Sun City farms (95771351) . Those  will either have work or know someone who does. Sun City is next to Woodridge so would be only 40 mins from Joondalup.

Another would be Taddei orchards along Chitna Rd- their peak season starts later in the year though.
