ASHES 2017-2018

So the first squads being selected. Couple of interesting in's and outs. Lets see if the Aussies can get some runs on the board.

Our bowling looks good, our batting suspect and the keeping role is a shambles. However, dad's army bowling attack for the poms isnt flash and root is the key wicket.

Can’t wait!! Gotta love the ashes..hope someone takes it by the throat like Jonno did a few years back...

thought the dorf would have got a bowl and spewin about Coulter Nile but a couple of west Aussies still having a crack. Hope our young bat gets some runs and I hope shaun pays back the faith (or rewards the Bloke who he has incriminating pictures of!).

Prey the weather plays the game.

roll on session 1 day 1 of test 1...hope we bowl first and stark sets the tone with some nasty short stuff

Getting very excited now and can't wait to see Cummins bowl at the Gabba. As far as watching sport goes nothing beats watching the Ashes for me and if we're bowling first on Thursday I'm going to watch the first session at home.

I'll get a ticket to day 2 or 3 on a mate's members guest pass to join a crew about about 20 blokes I grew up with in Balla for a day of mayhem. The trick to longevity these days is to drink mid strength until midday and then get on the super.

Lyon's run out

Thu, 2017-11-23 18:31

Great bit of fielding to break up a slowish day. Good to see Patinson fire up towards the end of the day. Harder/dryer pitch tomorrow should liven things up.

The Poms batted well today on a paceless pitch. Lyon was amazing to watch with his drift, turn and bounce and was pretty unlucky not to have a couple at least.

Bring on the new ball and hopefully a quicker pitch tomorrow

Good support from Marsh. Long way to go to get back on top. Good hard fought cricket. Reckon England will struggle if the two pace back up bowlers do not keep it tight. Pitch still seems slowish no real zingers even though the Aussie pace man bent their backs to get the ball up for a good spell.

We'll have two cracks at the Poms under lights, this evening and if necessary tomorrow evening. We have a lead of 250 which is enough but will bank another 100+ today as the princess has had her rest.

Bugger me, Lyon bowls his heart out, takes a screamer and then has to face a rampant bowling line up, under lights for the princess. Shame.

Pretty strange commentary

Tue, 2017-12-05 08:34

Pretty strange commentary aye, it's not like last night was the only twilight session for the match. We've got two quicks who've returned from injury just in time for the Ashes and a bloke we've only just got back on the park after being constantly injured for 7 years and we weren't exactly hooping it around before the last wicket.

Smarsh made a tonne in the last dig so going on his history we all know what comes next regardless of twilight or daytime. Quack, quack, quack.

Quite inconsistent in both matches so far. Be good for him to get back to line and length, he should be the one to get swing in the evening. Lyon having another good match. I wouldn't have sent SMarsh in last night either, would have been another easy wicket for the Poms.

The WACA

Thu, 2017-12-28 17:12

Call me an old sentimental b.....d if you must but, if there is one thing that really gets up my nose is the way this state treats some of it's most valuable history.

What am I on about, I have just read about how they plan to turn the WACA into housing or what ever as it's on prime land and has, according to some, out lived it's purpose as a field for the gentlemen's game to be played on.

This state seems to have the attitude of let nothing stand in the way of greed and so called progress, our history is flattened on a regular basis and we (sandgropers) do not have many structures still standing which we can point to as significant places.

I don't know how old the WACA is, but I do feel that it is significant as a place where some great moments in the game of cricket have been played out in the west. Why can't a few dollars be spent on making it a safer venue and a world renown pitch be preserved for future intra state and world games, I would make a bet that the thought of putting a bulldozer through Lords or the MCG would bring about the fall of the government that even mentioned that view.

For me the place has strong memories and atmosphere something that you can't put a price on, IMO if these mad greedy fanatics are not stopped you may be able to take your kids to a game of cricket in a glitzy all singing and dancing venue but, but it will not have a proud history or an atmosphere you can taste and cherish.

Rant over

1885 was when the WACA was

Thu, 2017-12-28 19:47

1885 was when the WACA was born according to their web page. Sadly for the WACA ground it is actually owned freehold by the WACA and if they don't have a revenue stream that exceeds the cost of running the venue then they'll have no choice but to sell the land off. Are they going to sell off all the land or just enough land to downsize the ground Meg as I too thought they were going to continue to lay State cricket there.

I've got some amazing memories of the WACA growing up but unfortunately it's grown to the point where I turned down a free Ashes pass in the members section this year because the viewing areas, available shade, drink and food service and the flatter than flat pitches they roll out have become so bad over the past 15 years that I chose to watch it from home. I for one cherish the WACA memories I have but won't miss the ground for big matches.

Good knock by Cook

Fri, 2017-12-29 06:28

Should the Poms have declared late yesterday with a lead of about 120 and had a crack at the openers for 15 odd overs? Looks like a very very flat track where consistence is the key. Looking more like a draw if the Poms bat on this morning with the weather thats forecasted.

Oh no Bangers, would love nothing more than to see him peel off his maiden tonne but he just can't get himself in. Time for Khawaja to make some runs.

If we can bat the day out with a lead of 200 by mid morning tomorrow don't discount Lyon wreaking havock in those footmarks that are starting to break up. Either that or we'll collapse and get bowled out for 150 and lose by an innings

Steve Smith. He basically bats at 3 anyway with Khawaja giving his wicket away. Then we can slot Travis Head into the middle order and see what he's got to offer at Test level.

Looks like rain will save the day. Agree about Khawaja has never been inspiring,  number 3 should be your best bat time for him to go. What was the go with the poms ball tampering went out to lunch so missed it.

Mitch Johnson for a one-off

Mitch Johnson for a one-off test in Sydney. Just need three 4 over spells a day. Send the Poms into therapy.

There we go a draw. Those Victorians should give up winging about our pitch over here. Meant to be the drawcard test of the summer pft.

Should we tell the Poms they need to take 20 wickets to win a Test match or just keep letting them bumble around the country?

MMarsh looked solid with the bat in defence. That shoulder surgery was a blessing is disguise.

Yeah I bet the Sydney pitch is getting watered

Another great knock by Smith, props to ex Captain Cook and it fizzled out to a draw.
And yeah the whole Bill Lawry victoria thing grows old.

Boxing day test has always been on my bucket list. Though if that's the pitch they want to serve up, then an Adelaide day/night will be a suitable replacement I reckon

Well how bout that for the Marsh boys,  bit of an anti climax with Mitch getting out next ball but a great effort all the same.  Aussies putting the poms to the sword in the heat now. Don't think they will forget this series in a hurry.  Looking like another win for our guys you beeuty !!!!!.

How good is that? Giving your brother a hug in the middle of the SCG because he's just peeled off a brutal ton against the old enemy.

Hopefully all the haters from the Eastern states have recovered from the extreme 41 degree temperatures to acknowledge it.

Job well done to the Aussie team. Didn't lose their focus even though under presure at certain times in the series. Must have been very tough for the Poms the last few days but no sympathy from me. All got to much for Joe Root at the end, Hope he gets better not good spending a night in hospital. Now on to the Bash and Crash of the One Dayers.

Yep well done on another great Ashes series. South African tour is going to be interesting. SA and India are having a ding dong tussle at the moment. I think it will be a little bit harder against the saffas
