Assist Hooks

I've been making my own assist hook rigs for awhile and wanted to get some comment on the subject....... preferred length of spectra/dyneema and hook size in comprison to the jig?? Which hooks you use, split and solid ring combos, different knots, use rubber bands or not...etc

I'm using owner splits and solids..mustard hoodlum 11/0 on this jig...JM Rocket 500g

Assist/Stinger/Trapper Hooks

Sean, there was content some time ago on Fishwrecked that gave the above web site, it is well worth looking at!
I started off using a split ring and power swivel as I had no solid rings at that time, I now use Owner solid rings instead of swivels.
I found that I was being bitten off too many times using Spectra/Dyneema, even when I put heat shrink over the Spectra, even by quiet small fish Elf/Shad (Pomatomus Saltatrix)that are very good eating and we also use them for live bait for Couta (King Mackerel) and other game fish.
I have read (probably on this site) that the assist hook must not hang lower that 60% of the body length of the jig and the hook must be large enough to be wider than the width of the jig to enable the hook to penetrate the fishes mouth when bitten, If you are using 2 hooks, one must hang higher than the other hook to give a larger hook-up area.
The Spectra attached hooks that became frayed I cut the Spectra off and some times attach them to the bottom of the jig with a split ring, (see photo) you can see the end of the old Spectra sticking out next to the hook eye.
I now use trace wire for all my assist hooks wired to a Power solid ring and covered with heat shrink (see photo) of various colours and combinations, the photos were taken when I was still using swivels instead of solid rings.

I am still unable to attach any photo's to my comment, can anyone out there tell me how to attach photo's?

Photos of Assist Hooks

The photo of the 7 hooks are all made using wire and not Braid ,I used swivels as I had no solid rings at the time! The photo of the jig has an old assist hook attached to the bottom of the jig using a split ring, you can see the old braid cut off near the eye of the hook, I found that braid soon became frayed and even bitten off. I use

Solid rings for Wellsys Tackle - absolutely brilliant, never bent one or had a breakage.

Mustad Live Bait Ultra Point 10829BLN again from Wellsys (I tried those Hoodlum hooks and kept snapping the points off).

Hollow 600lb Spectra - its actually pro kite flying line or hollow Nylon braid.

Spliced loop and snell knot to hook + aerospace high penetration super glue.

Justa question - if the fish strike as the jig is dropping the hook cannot be alongside the jig, so what relevance is hook size to jig size/width??

IMO a large hook size eliminates catching small fish, well most of the time anyway.
