Back in the Water
Thought id throw up a quick post about yesterdays dive. Not a great deal to tell.
Got a new kid on the block now in Lucky Tim , stoked to have him n haylz in town and a new dive buddy. Although it felt heaps "safer" diving those warmer exxie water with ya bro!
Anyways Tim and I left Gero about 1100 - Gentlemans house and too many of Matso's Ginger beers the night before. Water temp in close 17.5C WTFFFF
Water was fairly clean and about halfway to our destination we got a number of txts and missed calls to inform of yesterdays horrible fatal attack. Not something anyone wants to hear about , especially just before going for a spear!
Got to our area and sounded around , felt fairly calm and collected considering and viz was a hazy 10-12m. Not a massive amount of action about. Big school of skippy and the usual buffs.
I clean missed a nice spangled at one stage and timbo missed a nice trout also. Great start!
Took some nice footage of pup dhuies and trout in a wiked big swim thru and had a seal keep company for 10-15mins just near the boat.
Think im going to call for an alias change here to UnLucky Tim as we finally saw what we'd come for although the shoutting of his name to draw his attention to what lie beneath probably wasnt the best of things to do considering we've watched the footage from last week a few times and then the poor surfers incident happening aswell.
Sorted that minor glitch out (sorry mate!) and tim dove on the thumping dhuie! Not sure if it was a little bit of time out of the water or something else but the size of the fish fooled him a little and his shot was from a touch far away for full penetration. The dhu took off hopefully not too hurt - it wasnt hit in a vital spot and only took flesh but i suppose we will never know! fingers crossed. I est it 10-12kg easily and the largest shallow dhu ive seen in shallow for along time~!
Moved spots only once as it was just a quick trip and didnt want to bum around all arvo , i managed a nice 4.5kg baldie and UnLucky got a beaut trout. Fairly content we headed home.
The water was freezing even in my normally warm riffe suit and the wind chill was horrendous but conditions other then that where nice. Hoping to get over to the islands in my coming few swings off and dive some nice clean water and chase a yellowfin or wahoo that are making apperance all over the place. Can only hope!
Thanks guys poddy
