Bait Knife Recommendations?

Hey People,
I recent snapped the blade in my old bait knife doing something I shouldn't have been doing...... So time for a new one but I was curious what everyone else was using?
The main issue I had with my old knife (which was a cheapy) was it wouldn't hold an edge and it suffered a bit from corrosion. There are a number or more expensive knifes out there claming coats etc to help with corossion but are any of them actually any good? Dont really want to spend good money only to be disappointed in the future.

Lately I've been using a $10 ceramic knife that I bought from my local kitchen shop, this came with a small sheath, so far so good, stays sharp and doesn't rust

Bait Knife
Even the highest grade S/S knife will rust if abused, left in the seath after washing in sat water etc. A bit of rust on a bait knife is not such a bad thing. Keeping the edge while taking the abuse is the key.
Contact Surecatch (site sponsor) and grab a Vitronox bull nose. Yewie has a good idea also and grab a ceramic, although I've not seen one that has taken the abuse of a bait knife to see if it keeps it's edge.
Sometimes when the water is quiet, you can hear the fish laughing at you !

Hey mate As a few have mentioned previously doesnt matter how high quality the knife is it will rust if not taken care of properly. Just a heads up we stock the Swibo Bull Nose blades and a range of other blades that may be what you are after. Cheers

Yes, its a very harsh enviroment for knives, and as others have pointed out, even the best knives will corrode. Wash them in fresh water, dry them, and give them a couple of strokes on the steel and store them in a dry place.
Ceramics are good for holding an edge and are resistant to corrosion, but tend to be very brittle.
Coated knives...... well there is no coating on the edge, so enough said

$4 knife from motackle. Super sharp and holds a decent blade. Mines been going for 6 months and haven't had any problems.
I'll probably be buying a few more in the near future

My deckies just keep throwing them overboard on a regular basis so I just buy up on the $5 Jarvis walker or whatever brand wooden handle bait knives,

About $17 and folds up so blade not exposed. Great for me cos I always lose the sheathes. It sharpens well too to keep a good edge

But I still like a decent knife even though I'm just cutting bait.
Quite often this is done in tougher situations than at home cleaning fish.
Boat movement, smaller area, small fish your trying to fillet.
Guess it just depends on what you're actually doing, but I still use a decent knife.
Doesn't have to be the best, but get something half decent that isn't paper thin and capable of cutting fish.

thanks for all the feed back. I'll probably grab a cheapy and keep looking for a better solution. I only really fish landbased these days and most of that is out the back of the ute so would still like something semi decent as it's not getting too exposed. Normally the knifes would get a quick rinse and dry before the end of a night which seems to help.

Able to do the "hack" jobs into frozen bait no worries...Swibo or generic, it's more about the shape (It's not like you are trying to fillet the bait hey?)

BCF Knife pack

they're the best bait knife I have found - always sharp, and hardy.
