Bait's rubbish
It is really. Everything stinks and you catch loads of undesirables. I had the day off but unfortunately none of the few folk who can put up with me were able to come out so I set off solo (which explains the crap photos) from Two Rocks at 7ish heading for a couple of close in spots that have produced in the past. The sea was calm and sounder looking good but nothing doing on the squid so I tried a spot of jigging. It says everything about my technique that I only hooked up with the rod in a rod holder while answering the call of nature. Result 52cm Baldy.
A quick troll along the back of the reef on the way in looked like a good idea. Following a truly impressive strike which I picked as a mackerel in came a 70cm pinkie. Go figure!

Well done Cod , I'll have to
Well done Cod , I'll have to grab some lures and make the switch sometimes following your success .. good call . Yep they seem to jump on when you least expect it , hope you had time for the customary 3 shakes ..

I have mates in SA who target big snapper using hard bodies and a downrigger. The photos are amazing, big reds over 11kg, and quite a few of them!!

Nice fish mate but don't
Nice fish mate but don't become one of the heros that rubbish bait. It has served it's purpose for centuries! On many occasions I have out fished some very good jiggers (popular fishing identities) using bait and lead. Fresh bait shouldn't smell either! On another note when I use bait my boat does not end up that dirty...perhaps that's where your getting the smell from? Anyways nice fish once again always fun on jigs and lures. FYI I jig as much as I use bait, just hate hearing how crap bait is
