Ballooning beach rig

Hey guys, Needing help with balloon rigs off the beach, were do I sit my bait in the water, top, middle, bottom, do use use a weight, was wondering if anybody could help me out with any diagrams or talk throught a rig set up with lengths and all, not using helium or should I. Any ideas or anything would be great as have all the gear and don't want it to go to waste, Thanks Rails

Depth of water will determine

Depth of water will determine to a certain extent length of balloon leader. I would run bait mid to top water. Everyone would have their personal setup. Mine would be approx 1 metre main leader Could use wire trace for this section to a large swivel onto main line. Off the swivel have a balloon leader 7kg approx and a length off approx 1/2 metre. experiment with size of balloon (how much air ya put in it) and the length of main leader (longer the leader the lower ya bait and the more drag) Having ya bait on the bottom will drag ya bait and possibly foul on something and increase the chance for rays.  Good Luck    P.S I'm no expert but keep it simple

Helium is a trial setup can get ya bait to skip on surface or just under. Or it can be like a kite and you'll catch seagulls

Lifesavers

Used to use "Lifesaver' lollies to tie the balloon and hook traces together when setting it out over shallow reefy areas. Takes about 5 minutes for the lolly to disolve then the two traces separate letting the bait drop down deeper once it reaches clear water.

Funny you should say that ,

Funny you should say that , as me and a mate were dicussing this and thought it was a good idea, we are not experienced in this but one problem we thought we might get with that would be once over the reef

1, how do we get the fish back in or the rig without snagging,

2 also id say it would be risky if your line snagged the rock and ping snap whilst waiting for the fish to bite??

Cheers

RE Balloon

I normally tie the ballon at the end of my trace ( about 5 feet up from the hooks) and will only clip a weight on if its really windy to stop the ballon pulling the bait out of the water.

If your putting the balloon at a great distance from the hook it helps to have a mate toss it out for you!
