shouldnt do.
I'd be using the bail arm to release line, rather than using reverse.

yeah
yeah i know i do use bail arm but because once your baloons where you want it and you shut the bail arm the baloon is always bouncing and pulling just thought it might be putting pressure on the reel

yep as others have said
yep as others have said shouldn't be a problem
good reels are made for it and this is the same sort of pressure jigging, bottom bouncing with big lead etc etc does to a reel.

I'd have thought that the rod
I'd have thought that the rod would take the majority of the pulling of the balloon mate and that a balloon would be less stressful that working a jig etc. Just do what my brother did and leave it in a flimsy rod holder in the sand with a tight drag and then go play with the kids.

I've used alveys when balooning, dont have to worry about line running out.

+1 for the Alveys
They the reel that fills the creel and they have 900m line capacities
And with nearly no effort across thirty years you will have a wonderful reel to pass on.

+2 for the Alvey
so true Osprey, have always used Alveys for ballooning and my father recently handed me down his old 650 Alvey. Its a classsic - red cherry coloured timber. They are well priced and last for generations.

I've been using a 950
I've been using a 950 spinfisher for ballooning for years. No issues at all. Anti-reverse on any 1/2 decent reel is designed to take savage hits from fish, a balloon gently bouncing away in the breeze isn't going to effect it at all.

My entry into the ballooning
My entry into the ballooning scene was a poor mans setup of using my Penn 950 and 12' Ugly stick to have a crack. It worked fine except for the lack of control on the release of line. As for the reel handling the job it was fine in the areas of concern that you mentioned but the screw that the bail arm pivots on and the screw for the line roller came loose over time from the balloons repetitive tugging on the line. Just check that they're tight from time to time and it should be all good.
Burley it and they will come.
